Well, it looks like I'm going to need another shelf for my Big Finish boxsets...

Oh good grief, my Time War Saga order is gonna end up being the longest post on this forum at this rate. I am very impressed if anyone is still keeping up with every single Time War release.
I am surprised they’ve gone straight for a recast rather than dabbling in a Chronicles format first. I think its safe to say that no-one is off limits now.
Good luck to Carley. John Hurt’s left quite the huge shoes to fill.

I had planned on doing a run-through of the 'Time War' sets when they were all finished, but that's getting unrealistic nowadays...

I thought his impression was quite good in the multi-Doctor lockdown story from earlier this year. And here he is doing Capaldi's Heaven Sent speech:
But this doesn't appeal to me. I really didn't click with The War Doctor series, so the prospect of 12-16 new stories starring an impressionist (as good as they are)...not for me, no thank you. I hope it's fun for the creative team to pull together and a success for those that jump onboard.
Time catches up with all of us and I appreciate the creative and business needs to keep moving forward, but I don't think this direction of casting more and more replacements for actors that are unavailable or no longer with us is one that I personally want to support anymore.

When all the announced sets are release it would take literal days to listen through everything- Gallifrey-16 hours (4 sets of 4) War Master-24 hours (6 sets of 4) Eighth Doctor-16 hours (4 sets of 4) Susan’s War-4 hours Young War Doctor-12 hours (4 sets of 3) Original War Doctor-12 hours (4 sets of 3) (Plus other range tie-ins consisting of 2 hours of Classic Docs, New Monsters, 1 hour of The Legacy of Time, 2 hours of The Diary of River Song, 4 hours of First Doctor Companion Chronicles, 4 hours of Shadow of the Daleks and 3 Short Trips of inconsistent lengths.) Yeah that would be quite the marathon...

Anyone with better ears than me can confirm that is Clare Higgins as Ohila? It sounds a bit off.

Yeah that would be quite the marathon... And all of the TV-related stories... I was mainly planning on doing a boxset or so a day, so it probably would take me at least a month or so... Whilst I might occasionally listen to a branch of it together (if there's enough warning, I do try and listen to boxes 1-3 of something in the days leading up to the finale), but, beyond that, for the moment I might be good...

I appreciate those who don’t like recasting, but I say this as someone who has acted semi-professionally as well as someone going into the entertainment industry. Very few actors I think are opposed to being recasted if they can’t be apart of the production for whatever reason. Something I think is worth considering is that Big Finish recast with great care and for thought of others, so they can’t be said to do these things half asked. It will never be more business led than creative led imo, and I think this is an opportunity for new stories and exciting adventures to tell.
However, like I said in the updates thread, I do appreciate that others won’t be on board for this.

I've said before that a recast is the least imaginative thing that Big Finish could have done with the War Doctor. There was scope for other things well before a recast. I still maintain that, but I think they've been sensible to explore the very beginning of the War Doctor's tenure. It's distant enough to not detract from John Hurt's portrayal or the era he crafted and it will hopefully bring something distinctly different yet still very much part of the War Doctor series and the ongoing Time War saga.
I suppose the only thing that does make me a little nervous is the thought of Jonathan Carley pretty much equalling John Hurt with the number of stories by the time these four sets have been released. I suppose you could argue the same about the number of Eighth Doctor stories we've gotten in the Time War in comparison.
I am impressed with the clip that was released. What was more interesting is that they've got Clare Higgins as Ohila, who's been on the wishlist for a long time, and this picks up straight after The Night of the Doctor.

I know it’s only a brief snippet and perhaps not indicative of the entirety of his performance but I’m sold on his performance. All the best to him I say.
One does wonder if this means the War Doctor will make a cameo appearance in the inevitable 60th Anniversary release.

I've ordered the bundle based on the strength of this single clip.

Yeah that would be quite the marathon... I'm someone who has all of the above and will continue to buy more Time War stuff, but I do think it'll have to get to the point where I'll have to think about the sheer volume of content and what I would truly like to stick with. Given there's no overarching story and few crossovers (and even fewer that are truly connected), I don't think it'll be too difficult.

Hmm. Not sure. I am with Project37 on this one... the War Doctor series was good, yes, but still it also did not click for me and most of the stories were just too much "Dalek go boom!" for my taste. I still think that Infernal Devices was the best set. I think I will hold off with pre-ordering for now- after all, there is still plenty of time until this happens.
At least I do not have an issue with the re-cast, he was fine in the Lockdown special, therefore the actor is not my problem. It is purely the issue that most of the previous Time War stories were just lacking something... although I have to say that we also got some really amazing stories, just think of the recent "Palindrome". If the stories will be of that quality, I will be more than happy getting the new War Doctor bundle.

Jonathan Carley was the highlight of this back in May www.youtube.com/watch?v=26UFq8RGVOs&feature=youtu.beso good choice. More Vekin and Rasmus maybe Lara's backstory? EDIT If that was Claire Higgins in the clip she sounds a lot Younger than she has before Regards mark687

Oh God. Just made the mistake of reading the loathing comments under the BF Facebook post for this. Yes, I am not 100% on board with this release (yet), but come on, what is wrong with people? I seriously do not get the hate. And that trailer was fine. If not the Doctor, maybe the sisterhood of Karn and Ohilia will get me on board.

People seem to treat this like it is somehow disrespectful of John Hurt. I really don't see that to be the case. If he had publically said that being the Doctor for him was a one time thing and he had never done Big Finish after the 50th anniversary, maybe I'd agree. However from the behind the scenes we got it seems that he was absolutely delighted to return to this character. So why not let his Doctor survive a little longer through the voice of someone who sounds uncannily like John Hurt? It is a great way to honor one of the best actors to ever be the Doctor, no matter how short.
