This was a middle of the road story for me. Had some good ideas but it didn't come together well. I liked the idea of a crazy Sontaran that knits a blanket out of his uniform. That was new. LOL What did you guys think?

Very good for 3 episodes but loses the plot a bit in part 4 when it becomes a bit too busy for its own good.
I like the atmosphere of the dusty mining/research facility, the supporting characters are good (if a little ott) and the Sontarans are a suitably nasty bunch.
7 out of 10, and I like this trilogy of 7th Dr stories.

My listen-through campaign has been forced to make a strategic pause. No doubt due to the perfidious treachery of Rutan scum, this vital mission record is not available for study in my personal archive of glorious achievements of the Empire. I will rejoin the campaign as we review the early audio evidence of that enemy of Sontar, the Doctor identified in the reports of the late Field-Major Linx as 'the long-shanked rascal with the mighty nose.' (Origin of citation uncertain.)

I think I've gotten a new appreciation of this story from this latest listen. I've heard it a few times, being enthused about Dan Starkey sharing writing duties with John Dorney (and about Sontarans in general) and there are a number of really interesting things about the story - interesting concepts and imagery and it's a good story for Mel, etc - but somehow the pieces didn't seem to quite fit together well in my mind before so as to better appreciate the story as a whole. It's actually quite a bit more balanced and cohesive than I was giving it credit for. I don't know how I missed that previously. Maybe it was trying to pay extra attention for the Listen-Thru?

I have tried this but could never get into it. I found it quite a dull story and remember more about coloured dust than anything else. I don't think it helped that this was released at the same time as Criss Cross - which held my attention more and I listened to that first. Perhaps I should have tried it the other way round?
I quite like the trilogy and thought We Are the Daleks was superb, the Warehouse is a good satire on Amazon... I was just expecting a bit more from this one.

Hmm. From what I can recall I didn’t mind this release but I also didn’t find it particularly memorable.
Also had a sudden epiphany halfway through that you could have substituted the Sontarans for any other warrior race such as the Metatraxi or the Ice Warriors and it probably would have worked just as well.

And finally got to a point where I can sit on the couch and listen to it,I did remember first time around thinking somehow Sylvester was speaking ultra quick and still feel that way in the first few minutes ,memory serving me well that I enjoyed the Sontarans and was intrigued as to what would terrorise them.I so hate Paternoster gang and ok Strax is amusing but somehow he has left the Sontarans pretty much stupid in my eyes so it was nice that there was none that I remember of Moffats tinkering in this .
as with all BF Mel Bonnie is far better served and the supporting cast are strong individuals and strong vocals.
If anything it rescues the Sontarans as a formidable foe and not comedic.I loved Time Warrior and Sontarans experiment when I first viewed later when they appeared their menace had gone and the prosthetics and costumes became worse I mean the terrible Two Doctors with not even the mask properly sealed around the neck just pissed me off(abut every sympathy for the actor in the Spanish heat).
In the audios as well it’s a non frizzy haired Mel that I envision ...thank God 😂

I am really enjoying this ok Ketch is the supposed comedy relief but the Sontarans are they way I enjoy them militaristic enemies and you forget Starkey as Strax .These Sontarans come across as not the Superior force as they are trapped in the same predicament as the humans.Sylvester actually doesn’t overdo the IT’s in MY MIND line (for once) and Mel definitely comes across a a brave and worthy companion too in the story.
Ok the foe isn’t original But Mr Dorney and Mr Starkey definitely restore the credibility of the Sontaran threat but they also bring about that they aren’t INVINCIBLE as a foe. They are one of the most terrifying of foes a clone army and I do enjoy Andrew Smiths origin story for them,which I should go back and relisten soon.
So I have to say it has much improved on this particular relisten.

Am on the final episode and totally enjoying it it always pays to revisit it and there are some quite great scenes to visualise within the story. I have say this is actually a very straight play for Sylvester with none of his annoying traits on display |
