Yeah, it's gotten me going down the rabbit hole of Dalek designs and redesigns over the years. Here are some very clean renders from Anthony Lamb (who's lending a helping plunger to The Timeless Doctors, among other projects), published about a month ago: That’s a nice rendering Isn't it? Some of them even look like photographs of model Daleks on a set. He's pretty prolific as a Big Finish cover artist, some of his most recent work has been for the Master Thief/Lesser Evils Short Trips for TLV.

So, I wanted to return to this point as it's been on my brain for a while: the bulky dialogue that has pretty much become a feature of Chibnall's era. My theory is likely this is still here, even after two series, because Chibbs is worried the kids at home won't understand some of the really big and often difficult ideas his stories feature unless they get really laid out. It's the only reason I can fathom why it isn't, still hasn't been, removed during rewrites: Nothing about Chibbs' reputation portray him as some kind of absolutionist when it comes to taking notes, and Chibbs has written adult drama most of his career. He must know this amount of wording isn't needed for older members of the audience.
I think this does highlight one of the big things that RTD and Moffat both had: they both cut their teeth in kids TV. Chibbs didn't, and Who is about the only thing he wrote that had kids as part of the audience. That experience informs the approach differently.

The ratings, for those interested, from Wikipedia ...
'Revolution of the Daleks was watched by 4.69 million viewers overnight, making it the third most watched programme for the day in the United Kingdom, and the most watched on BBC One. The episode received an official total of 6.25 million viewers across all UK channels and was the second most-watched programme of the week, and received an Audience Appreciation Index score of 79.[27]
The live broadcast on BBC America had 652,000 viewers.'
Second most-watched programme of the week? Not too shabby at all!

And only about 100,000 behind Corrie. Could easily be #1 by the time the +28s give us the final figure and the catchups and DVRs are alll fully factored in. This figure is about what Capaldi's specials did on Christmas Day so I think the Beeb may want Who back on Christmas night if they can't get a big show like last year's Gavin & Stacey reunion ep on air. Both ITV and the BBC failed to have a runaway success this festive season but Who is once again not just holding steady but competing near the top. It's why no-one should worry about the show's immediate future. It's not hitting Tennant era numbers but in this day and age it's as close to a sure thing that isn't a soap on YK TV.

They can't seem to make up their mind, can they?

No discrepancy, just three different numbers for three different things: BBC One overnight ratings (24h, includes PVR) - 4.69 million Final total (includes one week of PVR watching) - 6.25 million BBC America, only live numbers - 652,000

I don't know why people get so obsessed with ratings. If you watched Revolution of the Daleks you either liked it or you didn't like it, how many other people in the UK sat down and watched it has no bearing on it.
I enjoyed Revolution of the Daleks and I couldn't care less if it was the fifth most watched television programme or the fifty fifth!!!

It's a weird phenomenon of Doctor Who that certain fans obsess over ratings. Do they do it with every show they watch?

As long as the rating are good enough to keep the show on air which they obviously are, idm.

Well, as a 'certain' fan (I'm sure that term isn't meant as a compliment), I'm just glad to see the New Year special doing quite well compared to other shows.

That's why I prefixed my post with 'for those interested ...' It was more an observation than a comment aimed at any specific person!

Are people obsessed? It's public information that takes less time to find out than you and JohnHurtDoctor spent typing how much you don't care. If you don't care...skim past it. And then there's the rather obvious point - that you probably should care if it was 5th not 55th for the week - as if it was the latter, you wouldn't have to worry about seeing people talking about ratings much longer as there wouldn't be a show on air after that anyway.

That's why I prefixed my post with 'for those interested ...' And you shouldn't have to even do that. I personally don't care about timelines and where things fit in - but when the conversation goes to that I don't feel the need to tell people they're appreciating the show all wrong.

As long as Big Finish continued to have the licence to produce Doctor Who audios I'd probably survive though!

Right... uhd... any idea how i can watch it in uhd? Hope this has some info for you www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-55430997I believe the last two series have been shot with 4K cameras yet the only Who release ever in UHD is Twice Upon A Time, a standalone ep. I don't know if the BBC are waiting to see if it's worth their time releasing 4K sets or not but I suspect they're merely future proofing so they have the highest quality for selling the show.
