“Sick of the same-old slaughter-appliances? In need of a killer new killing-machine? Then look no further than Garundel Galactic's secret arms auction. Blasters, tanks, missiles and bombs – no bang too big or micro-laser too small. If you’ve got the credits, Garundel's got the kill-sticks. (Cash buyers get preferential rates.) In search of the key to a sinister alien technology, the Doctor, Klein and Will set their sights on an illicit intergalactic arms fair run by an old acquaintance – the slippery Urodelian crook, Garundel. But what are their chances of pulling off a particularly audacious heist from under the noses of Garundel and his alien clients, the ever-belligerent Sontarans…?”
In this Klein/Will trilogy this was the one I hadn’t listened to and have to be straightforward in why I had developed a distaste of Sontarans as they had become the “joke” of the Doctors enemies and no longer a threat (IMO) but after granting them a modicum of forgiveness I am now slipping the Cd into the player....that leaves only one more to listen to in the Sontaran catalogue...The Heroes Of Sontar

I certainly think this is a step up from its predecessor and I appreciate how the Sontarans are, as you said Causality, not merely just comic relief in this but I don’t know, I think this was just average at best. I do think Will Arrowsmith is a lot more likeable in this then he was before when I kept wondering how desperate UNIT must be to hire such a twerp. So that’s an improvement at least.

Will is pretty much in the mold of Missy’s assistant in the Afterlife but I never found him annoying always thought Klein would employ someone beneath her in a way of that makes sense. His little dictaphone sure helps when descriptions are required I do like that the Sontarans are played straight again and the tale is engaging enough and the Krakenmother did sound original

Loved the little scene between Garundel and The Doctor as to what happened to his past companions a ponderous moment for 7
And poor Will getting ribbed for his lack of dating experience aww poor Will

And a very good finale that managed to use an enemy in a way that they aren’t seen just imagined.... And m sure the vocal would have actually ruined it...the silent presence was so much more effective
also the almost humanising of Klein an almost normal human being in this there’s even concern for the fate of the Doctor and also it gave me a reason to like Will the gentle ribbing of him actually gives me a reason to care about him and wish him well...in fact I know that it would be nice to actually revisit the character as a maturer adult with his ineffectiveness eradicated
if I remember correctly though Will regresses again in the next story where in this he makes progress...The Doctor really should have played more of a role in his development I wouldn’t want to say Father figure, really would you want THAT incarnation as your father?
