JHD: "No. No More McCoy."
(post now missing?) The fact that I don't want to listen to any more McCoy is incorrect? Was I lying?
The only way you could possibly take offense at that remark is if you logged on looking for something to take offense at. Lighten up. Jesus.

The post isn't missing, its still there. & I wasn't offended, just questioning the validity of your response...

I do wonder if the more 'adult' or 'mature' Ace will come across as the MR transfers into the separate releases. Aldred seemed to be playing Ace a lot more 'wiser' and 'mature' here than we have seen in previous releases. If the new 7th Doctor Adventures are going to head towards the end of the incarnation, this seems to be a good way to go. I hope so too. Ace is still a terrific character, but the angsty, name-calling, precocious version should have been laid to rest some time ago, I feel. I agree... BUT having just listened to Gallifrey Time War 1, we see Ace immediately after leaving the TARDIS (or near enough), and she plays the character basically the same as here. The script gives her a lot more to do than she typically has when playing second-fiddle to the Doctor, really demonstrating Sophie Aldred's skill as an actor, but this Ace doesn't seem that much more mature. Personally I'd love to see an older Ace, in the same vein as Leela and Romana in the afforerefferenced Gallifrey range, but that doesn't really seem to be in the cards. Maybe it would be doable if she rejoined the TARDIS later in life? Though that would create continuity problems with the 7th Doctor, as Ace is still (presumably) aware of the Time War and all. It might be interesting to see her paired with McGann, though--kind of like School Reunion.I do kinda get why Big Finish might be reticent to go in that direction though, and Abe up the character. For better or worse, Sophie Aldred's voice is basically the same now as it was back in the 80s. She make look older, but she doesn't sound older, and that could be limiting.

Listening to this now, and I’m afraid I’m struggling with it. There doesn’t seem enough plot to fill the 2 hours, and my attention keeps wandering. I liked the opening scenes at the inn more. Though not the choices the innkeeper actress made in her vocal delivery, which was *interesting*. Really liking the Ace/Kirsty scenes though. and I’m surprised how easily I’ve taken to Jon Culshaw as the Brigadier. But the story is poor for me.

Caught up on this one the other day too. I struggled with it a little bit, if I'm being honest. The Doctor, Ace, and the Brigadier are written note-perfect, and I like that the story felt like it was meant as a successor/bookend to The Abominable Snowmen (which of course I've never seen, but I'm aware of the story). But for whatever reason, it just didn't keep me engaged. I don't want to call it BAD, because it's certainly not, just didn't hold my attention.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this. I love Ace and the Seventh Doctor, and I found Jon Culshaw quit convincing as the Brigadier.

Culshaw's the only "soundalike" I find essentially indistinguishable from the original. His brigadier is perfect, and one of the main reasons I'm excited for/interested in the new River Song set.

Say what you will about this story but if the image of the Doctor, Ace, The Brigadier singing Christmas Carols atop a mountain on a Parallel Earth doesn’t perfectly embody the spirit of Who then I don’t know what does.
