I never really was a fan of Zagreus but I have always enjoyed this tale.Yet again so good to Have Kestrels index and realise it didn’t have its own thread. So opinions an aye or a nae? For me it really is a classic epic tale with so much fun stuff going on,Battle Tardises and foreboding of wars, time wars, web of time unravelling.I found a lot of the early releases too long in need of some snipping but this one I feel is just right. It is overly fan w..k but I just don’t care

I am just the other way around- I have never been a fan of Neverland, but I like Zagreus. I just do not like the version of Gallifrey presented there, I think. And I am not so sure about the villains (all that anti-time universe business), I do not like the Rassilon backstory and do not get me started on Charley... But that is of course all down to personal taste.

I has the feel of an epic tale.Little bits like who Charley will invite to tea etc. There is a lot in it to enjoy.I loved the possible anti time foe.Time Lords erased from the timelines. And The Romana Imperiatrix ,it’s so good. I will revisit Zagreus a tale I have only really heard three time..long tales like Minuet and Zagreus can lose me. Gary Russel does hold it all together with his direction. I believe also that it was a real group effort to tighten it all up.I love it

Yes see something good that you liked lol 😉 I have been in a good mood lately so it’s been ideal for getting to grips with stuff I had poor opinions of...the senses are honed lol. Who Knows Zagreus may rub off on me lol... there is some very good enthusiastic acting in this Paul ,India,Lalla and Vansell(Tony Keetch)Narvins predecessor wasn’t he?no poor performances they are all giving it their all. You cannot say originally they didn’t have high ideas and not bad for a story which is in the top ten of Big Finishes Doctor Who longest releases

well I have to say Neverland is a classic for me I still love it the time just flies by and all the performances are lovely and the story is gripping and the Charley 8 bond and the bond with Romana so makes the story. The Doctors dilemma over Charleys fate-love never dies

Its a great story and a fantastic end to The Original Arc.
(I prefer to think of Zagreus as stand alone, especially given the gap between releases)

Genuinely impressed with this release. Really brings the 8th Doctor-Charley arc to a fitting conclusion and the resolution is quite clever as well - all the stories fitting together quite nicely. It has a slow first half but really picks up in the second episode and the scenes with the Doctor willing to sacrifice himself to save Charlie are excellent - Fisher and McGann are excellent in this.
Initially, the 8th Doctor was portrayed as a 'romantic' and that really shows here. The subtle questions about love, loyalty, fidelity and friendship are handled really well here and make for an interesting listening. I also thought Lalla Ward was good as Romana here (better than in the Apocalypse Element) and Don Warrington makes an excellent Rassilon.
The references to Zagreus are clearly laying the groundwork for the next 8th Doctor Arc and the conclusion of this one leads into the 50th Release itself.
Have throughly enjoyed the first two seasons of the 8th Doctor and have been, on the whole, pleasantly surprised. With the exception of Time of the Daleks and perhaps Embrace the Darkness the second season has been strong. With Minuet in Hell aside, the first two seasons with McGann were pretty strong.
In terms of moving forward - should I go for Zagreus or move onto the next release with 8th Doctor and Charley?

It has it's committed fans and it's just as committed detractors. I say give it a go. I don't love it, but I'm glad I've listened to it. It has some interesting ideas, even if they don't always pay off. If you don't go into expecting a multi-Doctor story, just a story with parts played by actors who have played the Doctor then you're ahead of the game. Enjoy it, and I'm interested to hear what you think!

I heard this one when it was released, so it was during those strange times when these McGann audios were, for all intents and purposes, THE new series of Doctor Who. And as such, this season finale felt cinematic and extra-special to me at the time. Not only was there the joy of anchoring the "new" Doctor with the "classic" series (reuniting with the Time Lords and hearing him with Lalla Ward's Romana), there were all of the big beautiful "visuals" for my imagination to have fun with: The strange opening sequence with the Recorders, the alt-reality projection with the Imperiatrix, the Battle TARDISes with Time Torpedoes, the Time Station (!), the gorgeous concept of Sentris and the Neverpeople (which, in addition to being an awesome name for a band, was a concept that felt like it could have been further explored), and the Doctor's valiant "sacrifice" toward the end.
This was a time before RTD brought a more emotional dynamic to the Doctor/Companion relationship, so at the time, hearing the Doctor and Charley state their feelings for each other so directly ("I love you.") felt so bold and exciting to me in the moment. I was also really moved by the conversation the Doctor had with Rassilon. The Doctor had made a choice to be true to himself, which isolated him from his home and caused resentment on their part. Hearing Rassilon express his approval meant the world to me, as I was going through my own real-life challenges with my parents around life choices I had made. So I was crushed when Zagreus (the story) revealed it all as a con. :/ I have enough frustrations with Zagreus as a production, but that shift in narrative soured me on the McGann series for a while (I was never able to get onboard with the Divergent "arc"). Neverland still holds a place in my heart as a high point in my engagement with the series (and Big Finish) as a fan, even if the next part of the era didn't resonate with me.

Epic Season Finale feeling, Great Action and Performances (only slight drawback is that its taken as read that Charley's survival is the straw that broke the Web of Time back) Terrific Cliffhanger which I'm sure will be resolved in a fun action-packed,sensible resolution, oh its also due for release for the 40th Anniversary in that case its bound to be a joyful endorsement of the TV Shows and it Fans Regards mark687
