Egads man! Colour me surprised when I took a look at the Big Finish index and saw we didn’t have a thread for this classic.
What can I say that hasn’t already been said before? It’s Doctor Who does panto (and certainly is more accessible to the average listener then a certain Bernice Summerfield piece) with some great and memorable side characters as well as some rich and at quite witty dialogue.
Just a sheer delight as far as I am concerned.

Probably the best of the 'light hearted' Christmas releases do by BF. The casting of Christopher Biggins helps and the scenes with him and Baker are a treat. I like the premise - someone 'pretending' to be the Doctor and taking the kudos for all that the Timelord does. Great fun and a real treat to listen to.

Hello again.
Just one word. Biggins! This is a wonderful panto-like episode, with an interesting premise. What if someone were to pretend to be the Doctor and save planets in order to make a profit?
Lovely performances from Christopher Biggins and Clare Buckfield really make the story cone to life. The regular cast are excellent in this too. Colin's Doctor does righteous indignation brilliantly.
Mel working with Banto trying to solve the problem before being wiped out was hilarious. Matt Lucas as the Jelloid gave me a giggle too.
It is a clever twist on the 'Doctor saves a planet from alien threat' story. Funny stories in Doctor Who have to be written carefully, and for me this does have some real scares to balance out the humour.

This is a fun story in fact I hovered between this and The Last Sdventure for Sixie. The End Of The Line won the day but will revisit soon

To be honest, as much as I adore Christopher Biggins as the standout character Banto Zane I really wouldn’t want his character to make a re appearance in a future story. He’s perfect as a one and done.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

The new episode of my co-hosted podcast features Gary Russell discussing how the extra scene at the end came about! We also chat about The One Doctor too. t.co/oAu8UGdxXn

Not sure how well the joke travels overseas, but in the UK they tend to be Blue, and so gained a delightful nickname of the 'Turdis' - see illustration (no light on top flashing when occupied unfortunately):

I love, love, love this story and for me, it's easily one of BF's greatest releases. The Sixth Doctor and Mel were never my favorite television combination but I was completely head over heels for them by the time the story ended. It was genius to place two of the most sexless and overly theatrical leads the show had ever had and put them in a panto-style story that pairs them off against opposites that were enamored with them! The humor sparkles throughout: - The gloriously over-the-top music cues when the Doctor bursts into the Council Chamber to confront the imposter! - Mel's hilarious story about her family bravely putting on a Christmas show for pensioners despite severe weather. - The playful and cheery score by Alistair Lock is full of gems, right down to the oddly sweet Jelloid theme. - And one of my all time favorite lines in Doctor Who: The Sixth Doctor is insulted and about to berate Banto, who responds, "Oh here we go, another voyage around the English language." It's just sheer loveliness from start to finish. I was lucky enough to get my copy signed several years ago by The One Doctor himself, who smiled and chuckled when he saw the cover. <3

I particularly liked the effort to STARDIS-ify the usual TARDIS effects - ALL of the usual TARDIS effected including the rising chime after the VWORP VWORP

It is a fun tale! And good old Sixie is wonderful facing up against this new menace. I also like the side characters, especially the talking jelly.
