Or Buy Separately in March 2023
Very nice Target Novel style tale Culshaw does fairly well with the main voices.

So I've got a couple questions about this release: - Will it only ever be available via the Masterful limited edition boxset, or does BF plan to (eventually) sell it separately?
- If the former, where should I place it in the Index? A special release? Or should I make a new "Exclusive Releases" category?
I really hope they do release it separately, because no way in hell can I justify spending $20 USD on a single Short Trip. Or, as the case will very soon be, $40, since I plan on buying the regular digital edition in a few minutes.

I think like The Revanants this will remain as a selling point of the set...but eventually who knows what BF will do...I would like a copy of The Four Doctors but not that much that I would pay a fortune for it

Some day I'd really love it if Big Finish could learn that there's a very strong possibility that their consumers might already own some of their products, and adjust bundle pricing accordingly. That $20 might be justifiable if I were getting three new Short Trips... I mean, it'd be a bit of a stretch, but maybe... but just the one? Nah. This is just punishing.

It is a three hour audiobook not a short trip.

Ah, okay. Missed that. Still way too high of a price-tag, especially compared to their other AB releases.

A question for those who have listened to this story: As a download-only customer who is indifferent to the interviews and already owns both short trips, the only thing stopping me from purchasing the standard edition of Masterful is this story. Trouble is, The Limited Edition is twice the price ($40 to $20) which means I would be effectively paying $20 for this audiobook alone. So my question is this: Is it worth that? Are there any earth-shattering lore revelations, or is it just a fun 3rd Doctor era runaround? If it is just a runaround, is it one of the good ones? I would appreciate any and all different perspectives on this release.

Its Set firmly between Green Death and Time Warrior so no "official" Companion so its a bit more of a study of the Doctor without someone to impress and teach and more a study of where people/ former friends are at when its time "leave Home" as it were, with some standard 3rd runaround thrown in. It evokes more than its indicative of its Era IMO. Regards mark687

Well, this was rather good! I really enjoyed myself. And it did not really feel like an audio book at all, since Culshaw was great playing all the characters. He really is getting much better as the Brig. I also hardly noticed that this time, there was no real companion around (well, apart from the UNIT family and Bessie). Trevor Baxendale has to be commended for creating a story that fits seamlessly into the continuity and could have happened pretty much like that back in the day.
The Master is up to his usual tricks, teaming up with some alien menace, and the usual back and forth with backstabbing and mind control is going on.
I love the 3rd Doctor era, and I really like all the 3rd Doctor Master stories. So I felt right at home here and thought it was a fun ride. I will certainly come back to it.
I will also admit freely that I actually enjoyed this MORE than Masterful itself. There, I said it. Call me weird.
However, I have to admit that to other people, this might be too predictable a story.
It is a fun run-around, with some clever ideas and some hilarious scenes. But I would not call it highly original or re-inventing the wheel.
I also think that 20 Euros for just this audio book (as it comes down to, since I already owned the Short Trips) is indeed too much. If the special edition goes on special, as it very likely will in the next few years, then it is one to contemplate. And when they are selling this audio book separately, which I am sure they also will do eventually, it will be worth it for a lower price.
If you are like me and a great fan of the 3rd Doctor era and UNIT and the Master, it is a great addition to the timeline, but right now, the price is a bit too high, IMHO.

No I bunged Nick a tenner and he said NO Way will they ever reduce the price or sell the audio separately π

They can do it AFTER I receive my physical copy am looking forward to it being same size and shape as the LEGACY box set so I can place it near a wee drafty spot near the window should seal it up nicely ππ
