Time to help fill out the Index! I've listened to so much Doctor Who lately, I'm limiting myself to those stories still remember clearly, so hopefully I won't wind up flooding the board with too many threads.... Anyway, I was quite surprised to see there wasn't already a thread for Colditz already. Maybe I missed it?
Colditz is definitely a delightful little story, though perhaps far more enjoyable now than it was when it first released? I can't quite describe how I felt listening to it. That the story is a solid prison break adventure romp is... it's fine, but it's not really what I remember. What I remember best is being gobsmacked when I first heard David Tenant's voice. (Should I edit the title? Is it too much of a potential spoiler?) I wasn't expecting it at all--I'd had no idea he'd ever been involved iin Big Finish. It just kinda sat there in a daze, thinking, "no way." Then I had too pause and hastily look up the story on the TARDIS wiki. Incredible.
I'm not sure he did the accent well, but Tenant's character was a lot of fun. Not sure if I couldn't take him seriously as a villain because of some inherent aspect of the performance, or if I just associated him too strongly with the Doctor.
Well, if you can remember, what did you think of Colditz the first time you listened to it? I'd be especially interested if any of y'all happened to listen to it before Tenant was cast as the 10th Doctor.

Really liked this one. Story is, as you say, very thoughtful and I find it very interesting that even though the story deals with trying to prevent the creation of an alternate timeline where the Nazis won the war from coming to pass, we actually never see this timeline in the story proper.
As well as being Mr Tennant’s Big Finish debut, this one also marks the introduction of one of Big Finish’s most memorable side characters Klein.
My only real complaint with this is the sound design in this is a bit off. Especially when it comes to some of the scenes in said Colditz.
Ending is absolutely brutal though. Really goes to show this was Big Finish in its early years.

This Seventh Doctor story set in the famous German POW castle is probably more memorable for introducing David Tennant to the Whoniverse, as well as introducing us to Elizabeth Klein, than the actual story itself. Which wasn't that bad, but the story does suffer from some poor dialogue (Hello Ace/Dorothy!) and some very erratic sound design. (Loud rat-a-tat snare drum taps over dialogue was one annoyance in my headphones, but there was a lot more.) Colditz does have some very good cliffhangers though, the end of Episode 2 most notably. For me the highlight of this story is the Seventh Doctor/Klein dynamic though, with outstanding performances from Sylvester McCoy & Tracey Childs as the two of them go head to head arguing over the alternative timeline where Germany won the war, Klein's 'golden age'. Even though Colditz has a conniving Seventh Doctor, a more mature-ish Ace, and a vicious Feldwebel Kurtz, it's Elizabeth Klein that steals the show in this story... I was surprised that it took nine years for her to return to the MR.
Colditz is an okay story, but for me it's not as good as the previous Seventh Doctor MR story written by Steve Lyons, The Fires of Vulcan.

This was a fantastic story for me, especially in setting up Klein.
Besides Colditz, do i need to have listened to any other stories before listening to the Klein Trilogy in the MR between 101-150?

I forgot how much depth but at the same pace this had. Apart from a certain junior ranking Nazi (wonder what happen to that chap playing him?), there aren't any outright Villains just people doing the best they can to survive a hellish situation.
Klein comes across as intelligent and amoral and a loose thread worth picking up again
Sound design again top notch really feels like other TV/Film Dramas set at the location

With Ace an incongruous anomaly, of course...

So I've started the "Klein Trilogy" and it's making me think I ought to give Colditz a relisten... or perhaps a kind soul with a better memory might be able to clarify some things? I'm a bit confused on the sequence of events w/r/t the AU future where Klein originates. So, to sum up my confusion w/ spoilers for the subsequent stories: {Spoiler} So we've got an A timeline where the Doctor lives and a B timeline where Klein is from and the Doctor "dies", right? But if Klein moves from the B to A timeline using the "dead" Doctor's TARDIS, then are there now two different TARDISes in the A timeline?

My confusion is coming from having just finished Klein's Story and not remembering the end of Colditz well.
I'm perfectly willing to give Colditz a relisten, but that may take me considerably longer to finish than the 2-hour runtime....

I’m just imaging The Mr. T as a Nazi. It would be sublime.

Fantastic audio drama, tense & imaginative, DT makes for a chilling villian as Kurtz & so his his comeuppance is truly rewarding.
I reviewed this on Amazon UK, feel free to read & give it a like.
Gets a 5/5 from me.

I remember enjoying the story back when I listened to it. Later I became more interested in it as a part of Klein's story.

I remember enjoying the story back when I listened to it. Later I became more interested in it as a part of Klein's story. Hah, exactly! I can't say I found Klein very memorable here in Colditz, but she manages to leave one helluva an (helluvan?) impression in the "Klein Trilogy," such as it is. And apparently she's got a whole other trilogy plus a standalone story later to look forward to....
