In which Doctor Who does Dad’s Army.
This one has some interesting ideas in it but unfortunately I think this story has only reinforced the (completely wrong) idea that the Sontarans are mainly a comedic race. Or at least that’s the legacy this story has left behind.
Although I will admit that this fault is mainly a creation of the Revived Series and they do at least provide an in story explanation for why these particular troopers don’t match up to the usual Sontaran standard.
What did you all think?

I do rather like adding the author of the story on to the thread title.

My listening of all of the main range is now complete lol.I held off from this one, heaven knows my stupid reasons as to why.The jokey side of the Sontarans from the TV show affected my listening choices.I needn’t have worried. The Tardis Team interplay and the Sontaran interplay is actually very good and I love turloughs self preservation attitude

Finally listening and yes there is an i story explanation which more than suffices it’s a pity that they are basically comedy now in the new series do not know if FLUX will change that pattern and we did have Terror of The Sontarans in BF. What i definitely am liking is the grasp of Turloughs character it is very good and entertaining

In summary i should have ignored my inner feelings and went with it at the time. This turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable tale full of some good character moments especially among the main Tardis crew...even though i knew older Nyssas story one particular part between her and Tegan brought a wee tear to the corner of the eye.The comedy Sontarans have a reason to be the way they are and actually is a little tragic on reflection.Good story that will definitely be getting relistened to.

Comedy is a dangerous vehicle... It can work or it can fall flat. Sadly, for me, this one falls rather flat. A Dad's Army version of the Sonatarans has a lot going for it, but just didn't work for me.
