Yes I like that interview pretty straightforward that he wanted to leave 👍👍 Yeah, sounds as though he wanted to avoid burning himself out in the role, which is a pretty understandable reason to bow out. There's the rigours of playing the Doctor, but then, also, there's the rest of it that comes outside of filming. The pressures of publicity, playing the current Doctor, fielding questions about the production-side outside the acting, knowing the lore, and so on. I think we had a good tenure with Peter Capaldi, all in all. He was always firing on all cylinders and doing his best to try and make every frame of film work.

I've heard that he was approached back in the 2000s to appear in a Big Finish audio, but had to decline because he was playing... John Frobisher in Torchwood. Nick Briggs and Jason Haigh-Ellery both tried to wrangle him whenever he had an availability, after that, but there were always schedule clashes with other work. Nowadays, well... Going by his televised tenure alone, there's at least two or three gaps where it'd be possible to run riot on audio. Rather than being in one here or there, he can potentially be in a stream of them all at once, if all the cards fall that way. Funny thing, time.

This is the first time I hear that Peter was softly booted out. I cannot believe that was the case at all, and I also cannot believe that the ratings played a part in it. I was under the impression that is was a) medical, with his legs b) mental due to the stress of the insane schedule c) he was friends with Moffat and when Moffat went, he also decided to go. After all, these are the people we are talking about: onsizzle.com/i/ingrid-oliver-ingridoliver100-the-moment-peter-steven-and-mark-found-17506962But whatever the case, we might never know or we might get the whole story in 10 years time. I agree however with 2 things- I also think Peter was the best NuWho Doctor so far (it took me 3 episodes to understand his accent, but after that, I was in) and of course he should come to BF sooner rather than later. Agreed on all counts, my favourite New Who Doctor, my favourite New Who era and one I very very much hope to hear more of at BF one day (and there's loads of gaps for new stories and companions), but I think Capaldi went at the right time for himself, 40 episodes and 4 years in the role is a very respectable run by any count, especially conisdering how gruelling the shoots are (10 months a year, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week IIRC-Matt Smith found it exhausting and he was half Peter's age) That said I think there was room for a 4th and final series for the 12th Doctor (either another one with Pearl and Matt, or with a new companion) (series 8/9 feel like his origin story, Series 10 the end, there's definitely decades worth of stories between Hell Bent and The Husbands Of River Song and The Pilot BF can explore and that's only the explicit gaps we know from TV, they are certainly creative when inserting their own story gaps...), but I'd have only wanted to see it with Moffat as headwriter, had Capaldi stayed on for Chibnall's 1st season I'm not sure his Doctor would have meshed with the tone of the writing etc, and I think it works better for a new showrunner to have a new doctor so it's more immediately a refresh of the show. But let's face it if A doctor onscreen leaves earlier than we hope and make us wish for more, it makes their return to the role at Big Finish even more exciting...Briggs is probably already working on his 13th Doctor pitch as i write...

I'm not watched Children Of Earth in many years, but I wonder if there any possibly of a Frobisher Torchwood audio? (Capaldi Frobisher, not Penquin frobisher) Obviously we see the character's end on TV, but perhaps he could pop up elsewhere in stories set before.

He’s clearly had dealings with Torchwood before as Gwen knows he’s their guy in Whitehall to contact, so an audio with him prior to Children of Earth would be possible.

The various “entering the TARDIS for the first time” scenes are universally excellently shot.

Jodie looked great in the bow tie outfit Honestly, I'm *still* swooning over her in the tux. SUCH a great look.

For some reason looking at these I instantly though how it would be set off well with Bill Sykes hat as a contrasting piece.

The Doctor (in all incarnations, but particularly 12) is one of the best representations of a neurodiverse person in fiction. As a neurodiverse person myself I really appreciate the way that despite being an alien the Doctor is portrayed as having autistic/adhd in a very nuanced and relatable way. This is especially the case with 12 which is one of the many reasons why he’s my favorite incarnation. He has struggles with masking, emotional sensitivity, has signs of RSD, time blindness, struggles with reading people, and has hyper fixations; but it’s these traits are always portrayed as just how he is and not a fault and they don’t come across as stereotypical.12 and The Doctor in general are important representations because their neurodiversity is never portrayed as a fault but simply a fact of who they are and that they are still able to live a for filling life and be a hero.
