So I was thinking recently about associating songs with DW characters: Are there any songs you associate/remind you of specific DW characters? Why do you associate that song with that character? They can be any genres and they don’t have to be featured on the tv show! Also if you associate the songs with any specific head cannons or theories with the characters. Mine: Changes by David Bowie youtu.be/BPPSu0vaNWAI associate this song with the Doctor regenerating! It’s a perfect metaphor! Also I separately associate it with a specific 12th Doctor headcannon I have involving age change😉 Sixie “ The very model of a Galifreyian Buccaneer” from Doctor Who and the Pirates youtu.be/00T_ft5RCdcPerfectly shows off Sixie’s personality! 10 and Donna “We go together” Much ado About Nothing by Tennant and Tate youtu.be/QSRSBolIJx8They recorded this song for the production of Much ado About Nothing” they did together but it’s perfect for 10 and Donna as well! 12 and 12 and Clara: “The Outer Limits” , “Bela Legosi’s Birthday” and “Shalle we Dance” by The Dreamboys youtu.be/9P7e3PMear0All songs by Peter’s real life band, that I imagine if 12 had a band he would write something similar! Every single song ever by David Bowie, but especially: “Rebel, Rebel” youtu.be/8jxhpOYNcDY12 being the rebel timelord! “Starman” youtu.be/aBKEt3MhNMMPerfectly encapsulates his Doctor! “Letters to Hermione” youtu.be/Xw1mmqMD9j0I can picture 12 writing a similar heartbreaking letter to Clara when he feels he has lost her to Danny! “Loving the Alien” youtu.be/ns2hmyP0mGYIt’s obvious 😉 Eight Line Poem youtu.be/aVqNJKQiPCAThe way Bowie roles his “r”s when he says “Cara” sounds almost exactly how 12 says “Clara”! Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen youtu.be/HgzGwKwLmgMCovered in Mummy on the Orient Express and Hell Bent this feels very much about their relationship! “Strange Kind of Love” by Craig Armstrong and Kate O’Halloran youtu.be/8ZS7QkiZr1cRead that Peter actually uses this song to get in the mood of how the Doctor loves humans! It’s perfect for 12 and Clara’s relationship! “Clara’s Theme” by Murray Gold youtu.be/QfeB2ELSNJ8and “Something There” from Beauty and the Beast” youtu.be/nwZEcdBMLLUClara’s theme is special not just for Clara but for 12 as well since in the show it’s the song he wrote for her! “ Clara’s theme” is also very reminiscent of “Something There” from Beauty and the Beast which reminds me of the many parallels 12 and Clara’s relationship has with Beauty and the Beast and of when 12 and Clara’s relationship started to soften. Do you have any songs you associate with specific DW characters? Why do you associate them with the character?

I came to say that Don't Stop Me Now always makes me think of Clara but this is a timegirl thread so I didn't have to! xD

Unsurprisingly, I have a few... I think the song For Good from the musical Wicked is a wonderful representation of the growth Jo Grant grows through as a result of her time with the Doctor. If you consider the song as a solo (rather than the duet as written), it can be interpreted as quite a loving little tribute from her to the Doctor. Listening to the lyrics of My Life Would Suck Without You, it's hard to believe that it wasn't written as a duet between the Doctor and Donna. If you listen to the first verse from the Doctor's perspective and the second from Donna's, it's scary just how closely the lyrics match the state of their relationship in Partners in Crime. I recently stumbled across Through the Valley, which I think is a fantastic song for representing the Master throughout all their lives. They're ready to take on the universe, no matter the cost... and they're fine with that! I think Boulevard of Broken Dreams is a pretty good song for the War Doctor. He knows he's not the Doctor any more and he's prepared to do what's necessary on his own. Also, for the Twelve and Clara fans ( ), I think Future Days is a great song for their relationship (or at least the first verse, if for no other reason than it basically happens in the show!).

Hmm... Let me see... The First Doctor - "Stardust"A refugee, an exile... a criminal? A wanderer, explorer and gentleman, to boot. The fellow who sought his destiny among the stars on a dream of stardust. The Second Doctor - "My Old Man's a Dustman"Capturing that classic hopping frivolity and irreverence of the Second Doctor. An incarnation proud of his interference. The Fourth Doctor - "Kalinka"Operatic. With a tempo that quickens as each note held by the singer's baritone lengthens. A tower of presence on the whirlwind of a rainbow scarf. The Sixth Doctor - "Goldfinger (Instrumental)"Bombastic, punchy, with an underlying charm that links the two warring halves into a union of surety. The Eighth Doctor - "Englishman in New York"Light, almost poetic, with a shrewdness that hints at heavier themes in its lyrics as it goes along. A Doctor living life as it comes. However alien it may seem at times. Travelling in the TARDIS - "Windmills of Your Mind"(With my favourite version being the one done by Whovitt and crew for Doctor Who Sings. )
That sense of skating on the arcs of planetary orbits, further and further out into the unknown. Ian and Barbara - "Invincible"The original schoolteachers rising to the challenge, refusing to be cowed in an impossible situation, but really you could apply it to any companion who's had to make the call to step into danger.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I came here to post Englishman In New York for Pertwee’s Doctor, but Wolfie beat me to the punch with Eight. I think thematically it works better for Three but totally get where you’re coming from.

Seemed more appropriate for us to do all the male companions rather than just Harry in our version, but he's definitely one of the most underrated companions and worthy of the song

I seem to recall that someone on YouTube once did a Second Doctor tribute video set to the theme tune from The Littlest Hobo which I thought worked quite well.

That's a Babelcolour one I was watching his tributes a few weeks back (hence why I remember): www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xm26StUZVYNot gonna lie, there may be a Sings version of this one at some point in the future...

Oh, ditto, that works really well actually. I was flipping back and forth on True Survivor for the Third Doctor, buuuut I think it feels more fitting for the high adventure tone of the Three/Jo Letts era in general.

Yellow fits the Thirteenth Doctor’s personality well, helped by Jodie Whittaker having covered it herself: youtu.be/pQPirlS_L1U

Inside Out and Upside Down by OK Go also feels like a song about the Doc to me - all of those selves that you've tried, wasn't one of 'em good enough?
Then there's Australia by The Shins - to me, a song about being a companion. Like all the things that could happen to you - Well you'll be pulled from the ocean, just a minute too late, or changed by a potion. To find a handsome young mate for you to love? Plus there's the bit about the dodo's/android's conundrum - and well, Dodo and Kamelion didn't have the best endings, did they? But in the end, who'd pass it up? So give me your hand and let's jump out the window... (Apparently it means something ENTIRELY different though!!)

Please Remember by LeAnn Rimes for Thirteen, Ryan & Graham. The Doctor is clearly very upset when these two decide to leave, and this song seems very appropriate for her in that moment.
(By the way, my sister and I have been taking notes from this thread for Doctor Who Sings, so you can probably expect to see us doing some of these over the next few months...)
