Somewhere in the south of England stands the Hothouse. Five vast, state-of-the-art biodomes, all steel and glass. Inside, rock star turned environmental activist Alex Marlow has a plan to save the world from climate change. By any means necessary... There's something growing inside the Hothouse. Something that could turn back humanity's tide. A voracious alien vegetable called the Krynoid. The Doctor's going to have to stop it. Stop Marlow. Stop Marlow's fanatical acolyte, Lucie Miller... Save the world. By any means necessary.
continuing my random Lucie and 8 and though I feel crap they have been giving me a lot of pleasure this sequel to the Seeds Of Doom throws our intrepid duo into the heat of the action once more and again a top cast of actors Nigel Planer and Lysette Anthony.Does it do any more than the Seeds Of Doom? Not particularly but it doesn’t play it for laughs so I like that. The Krynoid are dangerous and are treated as such.I am sure there are many morally bankrupt individuals in this world today who would probably see Marlowe plan as a great idea...it isn’t one of Jonathan’s best scripts but I still think that given the monsters they could have revisited this one can send shivers much like the Wirrn it is doing what it does

I do like it but I suppose my main issue with this one is I always feel the Krynoids are under utilised in terms of their potential. Feel like they’d suit a UNIT story for instance. If only to showcase how one pod being unleashed can quickly influence the rest of the world.

Well am sure UNIT were involved in taking the cuttings to see how best to deal with a recurrence but there is plenty of scope for further development of the Krynoid definitely

Could make for a rather topical (although hopefully not as heavy handed story) about how we should look after the environment. After all, imagine the damage a Krynoid pod could cause if it landed somewhere such as the Amazon Rainforest or the Eden Project?

Gave it another look. Much better than I remember even if it doesn’t really add or develop the Krynoids further as a species/threat.
To be honest though, I think when I first listened to it I was just rather burnt out on Series 3 of the Eighth Doctor Adventures as whole hence my rather less than impressed initial reaction to it.
Would love to see a future story set on a world (another planet entirely) where the Krynoids have already taken root and the remaining colonists are desperately trying to escape the vegetation which is slowly surrounding them.
Just have this image of a shuttle carrying passengers ascending into the sky only to be dragged down and ultimately pulled apart by vines which erupt from the planets surface.
