Well....it was my half century milestone last week, so I have a bit of a self indulgent splash the past fortnight or so, with gift choices and some self financed treats on the Doctor Who specific front: Image gallery of actual items bought (and one still to come). Well, you are only 'precisely' 50 once, and its a nice blast from the past - filling in a few long standing gaps in a few (long standing) collection ranges (or upgrade as in the case of the 1966 Annual - the one I got 36 years back was always a bit 'pre-loved'). I guess Evil of the Daleks will be in the DVD shelf before next week is out too.... Great pickups and hope you had a great time! That Colin annual is very special to me as in my last work the team went on Ebay and ordered a copy for me, with it being the annual from the year I was born along with chocs, a bottle of Kraken etc. Really thoughtful gift that touched me. I got Colin to sign it at a con and told him that, he asked my birthday and wrote "Happy Birthday every May 16th from Ol' Sixie - Colin Baker" It's my fave annual for those reasons. Two kind acts. I saw that exact annual at a 2nd hand book shop not far from my house a few weeks ago.. I think they were asking about AUST$20 for it (?)

That does sound truly priceless. I even might say I am jealous, though it wouldn’t mean as much to me of course!

Thanks - I am looking forwards to having a read of a few stories (thought I have some of them in the last Omnibus special, which I bought from an overstocks shop back in 1986). Always an omission as Colin was my Doctor as a young collector. I added the additions to the collection in the old antique chest tonight (think the Power of the Daleks Tardis one) and noted that the 1986 Annual that I got for Xmas at the time (the last in the range) is still pristine 'as new' (I always looked after my stuff). I gather that's the rarer one of the latter years releases... That leaves 1967, 68, 69, 70, 71 & 82 to complete, but I don't think I will be dishing out £200 apiece for the early ones unless I get a proper windfall (looking for a £10 1982 edition now).... Addendum - I read the first story in the Pertwee 1973 annual the other evening out of curiosity (you are never too old hey) and It was well written and a fascinating original story pre Target and Terrance Dicks. A good indicator of the level of cerebral engagement those annuals were geared towards.

I've got his autograph quite a few times over, con pics, the signed Music From The Sixth Doctor Adventures BF CD (they used to sell those for a tenner signed by each Doc...what a buy!), the signed This Is Colin Baker CD, a Strictly Ink signed trading card and The Last Adventure box signed. But the annual is special because my team thought of me, and Colin put the nice message in.

My Season 24 Blu ray should be arriving today after a week waiting (I think Amazon was backed up. And I know that my copy of The Evil of the Daleks is coming but I don’t expect that to arrive for another week because it’s coming from the UK.

I was able to re-listen to DU1 before Volume 2 came out in July, but I don't think I'll be listening to the second set again before next month

I had two arrivals today: Blake's 7 - Avalon: Volumes 1 & 2, after over two months of shipping, and, staggeringly, Doctor Who: The Eleven, with just shy of three weeks of shipping. There really is no consistency in arrival times these days

Enjoy the Avalon releases, I've found them an interesting companion piece to the main series.

Enjoy the Avalon releases, I've found them an interesting companion piece to the main series. I've actually already heard both of the Avalon sets. Given the indeterminate amount of time the CDs take to get here, I always listen to the downloads on release. I was a bit ambivalent about both sets. I found the eidetic memory guy irritating beyond belief (not to mention his intro story had some of the cringiest dialogue and "plot" beats in anything I've ever watched/heard/read), so his prominence in the series seriously affected my overall enjoyment of it. Where he wasn't concerned though, I did enjoy it for the most part. I'm not sure if I'd want to see this as a permanent Big Finish fixture for Blake's 7 or not. I guess it would really depend on whether or not they brought that whiney guy back If they continued the series without him and actually focussed a little more on Avalon herself (I felt we spent more time with side characters than we did on really getting to know our titular character), then I think they could really be on to something.

I think their hands have been a bit tied with the lead-up to Project: Avalon. Avalon has to be a particular way, character-wise, to match up with the televised episode. Once they hit that point, her first meeting with Blake, hopefully they've got carte blanche to take the character wherever they like. Heart of Ice and her confrontation with Travis was really good. Madison... Yeah, he struck me as a deliberate counterpoint to our band of outlaws in the main series. Everyone's very cool and hands-off about Blake's rebellion, but here's a character who genuinely wasn't interested. You could see why most rebel cells against the Federation just didn't have the staying power like Blake or Avalon's. You know who I'd love to see back? Fay. Avalon's "not-quite-Newt-in-the-shafts" friend from the pilot. I found her really endearing. And her story with Avalon doesn't feel like a closed book just quite yet.

Been making use of the Oxfam online shop offers lately, to get a few items priced far higher elsewhere, so today I received in the post: Hardback, as new for £6.40 (20% off plus free postage offer) - Doctor Who & the Krikkit Men
I had forgotten, but I also got a few weeks ago from same, a few random limited time 50% off selections (and one combined postage charge, despite coming from three shops): Dalek Invasion of Earth Audiobook - £6.50 Doctor Who & the Doomsday Weapon Audiobook - (as new) £7.00 And, despite having the reissue box sets, this seemed a steal. The Faceless Ones Audio Soundtrack - as new at £3.50!

Each and every time I have opted for either Blu-Ray or Steel Book, I have just had to double-dip for the DVD shelf eventually, so saved myself the expense this time round and just went for the base level release. It makes sense, given what I was able to get (above) with the money saved.... I don't display the slipcases (see below, they are a bit superfluous if you want a flush run) but pop them away in old VHS box/tins, but seem to have 'lost' the Power of the Daleks one from five years back.... put away somewhere for safe keeping of which I no longer have a clue..... The deal breaker for me is that it has the all important reversible cover! image credit: Matthew Purchase
