Okay, this one was a lot more humorous than I expected. Definitely got a Curse of the Fatal Death (<3 Rowan Atkinson) vibe from all of the fake Masters running around thinking they were the real deal.
Speaking of which, can I just say how much I adore Beevers' performance here? After listening to Masterful I think I commented that his Master may just surpass Delgado's as the "best" Type-1 Campy Supervillain-type Master... and hoo boy, this story isn't doing a thing to change my mind. How can you not love how snarky and self-aware he is? Oh no, the Doctor's here. Guess this plan's a failure. Oh, you betrayed me. Great. I would promise vengeance, but you're so incompetent you'll certainly get yourself killed without my help.
It's just completely delightful.
And then can I just say... partnering the Master up with Leela is a genius idea--I'm not surprised it's happened more than once, see GTW1.3). The two have an excellent back-and-forth. I'm not sure if I can say this is my very favorite Master story, or even my favorite Beevers story... but it's up there. It these early 4DAs really do represent the weaker side of the range, I can't wait to see what the next set of Master 4DAs have in store for me.
....
Also, the Master's real name is revealed! And it's... Tilly.

If you like the Zombeevers here, just wait until you hit “Requiem for the Rocket Men”

Yeah, I definitely wasn't expecting these to be quite so humorous... but I rolled with it. I think maybe I was more ready for a silly Master story after all of the high melodrama in Masterful. If you like the Zombeevers here, just wait until you hit “Requiem for the Rocket Men” Ahahaha.... I look forward to it! I basically don't have any big interest in the 4DAs outside of Beevers (I mean, I definitely want to listen to more stories with Leela, but that's not really a priority right now), so I'm just going through the 4DA Master stories. So next is Dalek Contract, then Final Phase, then Evil One, and then I'll get to Requiem for the Rocket Men and Death Match. And then I think I'll have listened to all of the stories with Beevers? Not sure how long it'll take me to get there, but soon, I imagine. The crispy Master is always so much fun--think I'll probably wind up listening to the MR Master trilogy again, too, as well as the rest of the War Master range--or at least the first four sets.
