'Huh, I wasn't expecting this to be out so soon... Now then dictaphone, if you could start 'talking' to my Macs again so that I can copy it to you, that'll be great...

Couldn't be impressed enough by the trailer, its nostalgic 80s graphics and the gentle music! 🤩👏 Colin sounds very "jowly" in the trailer. Has he been like this for long? I haven't heard a Colin audio since the end of 2019.

Just listened to the first story and he didn't sound "jowly" to me although I usually seem to notice things like that.

I haven't heard a Colin audio since the end of 2019. I first noticed it in the end of the beginning. I think its a fairly recent thing. (Which is fair tbh, dudes old and your voice does weaken for lack of a better word as you get older but it is pretty noticeable. Maybe they could touch it up a bit like they do with Tom? The difference there though is that is done at toms behest. I imagine brining it up would be awkward and come across as rude ig) it does take me out of the story atm but i might get used to it in time

Very good release, its either a more meaty MR or a lightweight Boxset
If your a fan of either Ole Sixy or The Eleven you'll enjoy this.
Interestingly they seem to be continuing the character development which the last MR "End of the Beginning" hinter Re Constance.

I'd been out of the loop for a while and was shocked (and sad) when I'd heard how much Colin's voice had aged in a recent-ish BF story (not this one). I'd had 20+ years of a gravelly Fifth Doctor, but the Sixth Doctor sounded wonderfully timeless for so many years (even when Colin was fighting a cold during Spectre of Lanyon Moor) and made those stories all the more immediate and exciting. Time comes for all of us but I can't help but feel a bit blue hearing the power gone from his voice and delivery.

They alter Tom Baker's voice? Sorry, I know this is a thread for The Eleven, but is this discussed anywhere in interviews etc that I can read/listen to?

It was mentioned by Briggs in one of the podcasts last year but thats as much as i can narrow it down/remember. But also if you listen to some of Toms early Big finish work or hear him talk in interviews compared to the actual productions they produce today, you can tell he sounds noticeably younger, briggs said that they get rid of a lot of pauses and speed his voice up. Its pretty effective tbh but i can see some actors not liking it, especially colin who's a bit on the sensitive side

They change his voice? WTF? Not happy. There should be more transparency on this not bury it away on a podcast.

But if you like what you're hearing and it sounds more like the Fourth Doctor....what's the issue? It's like a live album, they almost always re-record bum notes and often whole vocals and have done for decades. You don't get a disclaimer on the back saying "Sweetened in the studio".

I’m sure it’s common practise as well for audiobook readings as well. If only to remove the umms and aahs and other intakes of breath.

Worth noting with Colin it might be due to remote recording. It could always be the case that back in the studio he sounds like normal again.

The releases where I do think he sounds a touch different are the ones that seem to be recorded remotely. Similarly, I think Tom sounds ever so distant in his remote recorded releases. It doesn’t surprise me at all they do work on his voice, particularly remotely, as he doesn’t record in a sound booth or with the equipment that some others use. Not a slight on remote recording, it’s working very well, but with differing recording conditions, you’ll naturally get differing results. It’s a testament that the end product has been so crystal clear sound wise.

I loved this set. The best use of The Eleven since Doom Coalition. Each story had it's own feel to it, it's own pacing and strengths. Beautifully done. Yeah, Colin's voice took me back for a moment or two at the beginning, but then it was back to loving the story. It wasn't an issue for me. I can see how this works better as a boxset rather than a MR arc. They would never have been able to do the second story in the MR since the Doctor is absent for the entire thing. Glad that they are using the new format to it's advantage.

They change his voice? WTF? Not happy. There should be more transparency on this not bury it away on a podcast. You’re consistent, I’ll give you that. Nick mentioned that one of the sound engineers has a program that shortens the intake of air before Tom begins speaking, thus giving his voice a younger sound. Anyway, I think Colin has been sounding much older for several years now. Look at him on the complete Blu-ray sets, the man is clearly getting up in years. Which isn’t a negative, just a reality.
