As you guys know 12 and Clara are my absolute favorite TARDIS team, I have always felt these guys need more love as a duo! I’m really really tired of always hearing all these negative takes in whovian circles about how Clara ruined 12’s era or that 12 didn’t get good until series 10. There is far too much negativity and hate surrounding their pairing in whovian discourse , they don’t deserve that, let’s celebrate them instead! 12 and Clara are one of the most unique, underrated, and compelling TARDIS teams in DW so let’s give them some love! What’s something, you really like or appreciate about 12 and Clara and their era together? It could be small or big!
Side note: Remember this a celebration of 12 and Clara, this is NOT the thread for negative takes!
Mine:
12 and Clara are have a unique equal pairing both romantically and platonically. In fact I think they have one of the best Doctor companion
romances in all of DW. It’s understated and told mostly through subtext but it’s there.
I think a big reason why they work so well together is that they are each other’s equals. Clara is basically the human version of the Doctor with all the intelligence, quirks and flaws that that the Doctor has.
They have also both made major sacrifices for each other, Clara by jumping into the Doctor’s time stream to save him and 12 lasting 4 billion years in the confession dial for Clara. 12 and Clara are also the catalyst for each other’s character development. Clara helped 12 soften and be more at peace with himself and 12 helped Clara find her inner Doctor.
In a way their relationship is a variation on Beauty and the Beast: the Doctor in his 11th incarnation was a more “traditionally attractive” energetic personable young man who turned into 12 a fiercer harsher looking and acting older man who slowly falls in love with Clara, an intelligent and unusual young woman with a love of reading and adventures. While 12 doesn’t exactly transform into a handsome prince, 12’s looks and more importantly his personality soften under Clara’s love and influence.
Some of my favorite 12 and Clara moments( I love all of their moments but here are some highlights):
All of Deep Breath especially the veil scene/ flirt with a mountain range and the “Just See Me” scene
Robots of Sherwood
The Caretaker
The loads of romantic tension in Mummy on the Orient Express
The heartbreaking goodbye scene is Death in Heaven
The absolutely beautiful, heartwarming and magical ending scene and kiss on the cheek in Last Christmas
The Pretty Woman guitar solo and all of Magicians Apprentice/ Witch’s Familiar
All the tender moments especially the hugs between them in Before the flood through Woman Who Lived
All the heartbreak and show of their devotion to each other in Face the Raven through Hell Bent
I really hope that Capaldi and Coleman come back for BF as there is still a lot more to explore with their unique and deep relationship! Not to mention I would love it if 12 and Clara finally kissed on the lips in a story! I have an idea of how it could happen too!
What’s something you like/love/appreciate about 12 and Clara and their era? It could be anything big or small, weather you view them romantically, platonically or anything in between! Let’s just celebrate these two as a duo! Any celebration and positive analysis is welcome! What do you love about 12 and Clara?!
