So I guess none of us have won? Literally made an account just cause of this competition. I do find it a bit unfair to leave everyone on tender hooks. Cause we’ll only know if we haven’t won... by just guessing. I mean it’s my first go so idm. But yeh, was really anticipating finding out who won yesterday whilst this method has kinda left me feeling empty :/ I haven't got an email, but without confirmation from Big Finish that they've actually contacted the winner... Anything could've happened. They could have been overran with entries, and have not finished judging? They could have issues contacting the winner, like an email bouncing? It is all speculation, though. We all have no idea, right now. I probably won't be spamming my email's refresh button so often today, but I'll still probably end up checking, until we know for certain. Yeah I’m exactly the same. I really wanna believe in the idea that maybe they’re having a challenge picking the right story or they’ve emailed the winner and it’s not getting through. But part of me just has a really strong feeling that someone’s been contacted and they’ve simply just either forgotten or won’t be saying anything to a later date. I’d think expect the worst but being a big fan as we all are... can’t help but think “what if I do still win?” 😅 well like u I won’t check my emails all day. But it’ll be on my mind. Goodluck to everyone tho, whoever has won/or is it yet to win will definitely deserve it from listening to the entries they’ve picked over the last few years. Just wish they’d say SOMETHING on Twitter just so everyone knows what’s going on.

I actually emailed them to see if they are still doing their Twitter message. I was thinking of emailing but I just don’t wanna be pushy aha. But I’m glad someone’s bitten the bullet and asked. Let us know if u hear anything!

Well... turns out I didn't get an email, but that's fine. Any non-winning entry is an achievement, regardless of making an effort to pitch a good story that one wants to tell. And to whoever has won this year, I just want to say one thing: I cannot wait to hear your Short Trip.

Just had an incredible phone call:
Me: Hello. Voice: Hi, is that Andrew? Me: Speaking. Voice: This is Big Finish. Me: Who at Big Finish? Voice: Yes, the Who department at Big Finish. Me: I’m sorry I haven’t ordered anything for a few weeks. I’ve been... BF: Well, that is unforgivable, but the reason we are calling is you won the short story comp. Me: I did? BF: Yes, Congratulations. Me: I didn’t even enter. BF: You will. Timey-wimey... Me: What’s my story? BF: You tell us. Your submission was on amnesiac psychic paper. We are almost certain it was great but we don’t actually remember reading it anymore. Weird! Me: I don’t have a story. BF: Everyone has a story. Pitch one now. Me: OK, the TARDIS lands... on a planet... where time... runs... alphabetically! BF: How would that work? Me: Well, the week would start with a Friday, then a Monday, Saturday and so on. BF: And the peril would be? Me: Just imagine... BF: That’s our line. What happens? Me: The Doctor has to make his way through much adversity and evading capture to the planet’s version of WH Smith to get himself a new diary. BF: And? Me: And a giant bar of chocolate for a quid that they’re upselling at the till. BF: There’s clearly been a mistake. We will go pick a different winner from the entries that aren’t from the future and let them know sometime between now and whenever that may be. Me: Fair enough. Shall I submit that story for next year. BF: Sure, why not. Me: Ok. Bye.
And that is why those of you that did enter are still waiting. Good luck to all.
Next year, you all may as well not bother. I’ve got 11 months to perfect my story. Maybe he’ll also buy a bottle of water. Or a jigsaw of a cottage!

From the Terms and Conditions 8. The winner will be informed by the end of July, and will be officially contracted to deliver a 5,000 word Short Trips story. As with all Big Finish writers, they will be expected to agree and meet all conditions, especially with respect to meeting deadlines and accepting input from producers. For guidance purposes, it is expected a first-draft would be due early in the Autumn of 2021. Now BF Don't usually Publicly Tweet that they've made contact with the winner till about 2-3 weeks afterword. Regards mark687 You say this, but the last two years, Big Finish have tweeted something about the Paul Spragg Opportunity in the month of July, indicating that judging is finished or near completion. The entire month of July, this year... Nothing. I'm surprised they've not given this as much Social Media coverage as they have in previous years. Fair enough another PR Error then because I'll grant the Tweets can be read to imply that the general public should know the winner on August 1st (the day after the last day that they should've informed the winner) which they've never done before. Regards mark687

Ngl, I am still feeling empty from not knowing what’s going on. I feel it should just be common courtesy to just let everyone know that someones been picked. Because as much as it is silly of me to do so, there is still something at the back of my mind that thinks “what if?”.
Also would like to know just so we can celebrate the fact that someone has won. Atm it just feels like they’ve forgotten about the competition 😂 and considering they have posted about the competition here and there on Twitter when it’s about deadlines or talking about the judges. You’d think they’d say SOMETHING.
Sorry for keep going on about it. But I just hate being left on tenterhooks. As an actor, it happens far too often 🙃

Hello again nervous wordsmiths
I have been in your position in previous years. The waiting is the worst bit. Big Finish are not announcing anything because of their own reasons. It may have taken longer to decide, there may well have been more entries this year. There might have been behind the scenes hitch but rest assured they will let everyone know a decision has been made as soon as they can. Best of luck everyone and take care.

I would be wary of reading too much into tweets. The original article said end of July, so I'm fairly sure the winner will have been contacted by now. (I was contacted well in advance of the "deadline" on the Benny competition, even though nothing was made public for a long while. BF like to keep things under wraps.) My best wishes to whoever it is!
Congratulations to everyone who entered. Just getting the idea written down and having the courage to send it is a victory in itself. Most people won't make it that far.

Most people won't make it that far. I’d understand the secrecy if that was a consistent thing they did. But at least for the last two years for definite, they’ve been pretty open and talkative about the competition even just before the deadline. Best wishes to the person who won of course. They deserved to win, I just desperately wanna if someone was picked so we can all relax and get on with things 😅

I couldn't help but read Update in Tourettes Guy's voice (if that doesn't ring a bell, youtube it).
Oh yeah, and congrats to the winner, wherever you are.

Ah well, another one bites the dust. Congratulations to the winner, whomsoever they may be, and to the rest of us: onward and upwards. The struggle reaps its own rewards. (Oh heck, I think I just paraphrased Gene Roddenberry!).

With less than 3 weeks to go, I haven't seen any announcement on the Paul Spragg Short Trips story winner for this year- Anyone able to find anything yet?
