I imagine there will be exchanging of stories or asking for notes or a second pair of eyes on stories, so do be respectful and mindful. Do as Lisa and Sarah Dollard advise: As an addendum: When revising, it can be very useful to treat your own reactions to feedback as a separate set of notes in and of themselves. It can be a good way of measuring how confident you are in particular ideas or sequences. If something doesn't quite land and you can re-explain it to yourself as: "What I actually meant was [X]," that's a possible way of rewriting the sequence so it's closer to your original intent. Weve been able to do that quite well between the two of us

Weve been able to do that quite well between the two of us Oh, yeah, it's been well and truly field-tested this idea. The best way to look at requested notes from someone else is that it's a sounding board. A different perspective, whether reader or writer, that you can bring to the development of the story. Particularly good when you have an instinct that something needs to be tweaked, but you're not not sure if it's [X] or [Y] (or sometimes [Z]).

Hello again.
It must be difficult every year for the team at Big Finish at this time of year. I expect that they are deciding what form the competition will take and who will have the difficult task of reading the mountain of submissions. It is an opportunity that Big Finish do to remember Paul in a creative way. All who have taken part in it over the years value and appreciate the chance to practice our skills at writing a good opening and synopsis. Writing a synopsis is valuable skill for anyone who writes. It's never easy but it's good experience.
Also, if you have entries that are sitting on your computers have a look at the Divergent Wordsmiths thread where later in the year they will be accepting submissions for volume two of Paul Spragg ReCollections anthology. All the best...

With the delay of the short trips Boxset to November I wonder if the competition would even happen at all

Still no news from the looks of things... I checked over the archived announcements from years previous and they've usually been able to put something up on May 7th/8th. Even during the 2020 outbreak. It's possible they've been caught up with the launch of the Ninth Doctor, managing the Virtual Big Finish Day, et al. Difficult to say without more information at this point. Well, I can say this: Until we know more, the submission guidelines for the previous year can be found on BF's site here and it was common practice to run the submission window for roughly a month. From May to June 30th. At the end of that time, Divergent Wordsmiths's Unbound Imaginings: Volume 2 will still be there and still accepting entries. Whether intended for the present-day competition or from previous years' proposals. We've more information here.

The monthly Short Trips range came to an end in December 2020, with both The Shattered Hourglass and the winning entry Free Speech. And it was a month before that BF decided to switch back to the anthology releases, starting with Volume 11 which consists of 6 stories. If that's the case, then it's quite likely that they're no longer doing the annual Writing Opportunity. I'm very sorry, but that's just me speculating.

Shame if they don't, but as Wolfie said, it may just be late. After all, the 9 release did crash the site for a bit, and all eyes are on it. No sense in dumping the opp in the middle of everyone squeeing over Eccleston's new adventures.

I'm going to give it until the end of the month, personally, then call it. I'd be very surprised if we didn't receive news on it at some point. Given the nature of the competition's origins, it's the sort of thing you'd want to do properly, rather than rushing through at the last moment.

And it does take months to get a winning Short Trip produced, beginning with judging the entries and writing a first draft.

I've been working on my submission for several months, and I'm so relieved that this year's competition is still going ahead. As I said many times before, I don't care if I don't win. I just want to appreciate and show support for whoever gets picked.

Another Cargill motivator: Adding to that: It doesn't have to be all at once, either. Breaking it up into smaller portions can achieve the same result. Have the daunting prospect of writing 5000 words in a month? Start with 250 words. Just for that first day. Another 250 words that second. Another for a third. Keep going little-by-little. Day-by-day. After 20 days, all those 250 word increments have built up to 5000 words.
