"Big Finish presents a full-cast adaptation of The Box of Delights by John Masefield.
When Kay Harker meets an old Punch and Judy man on his way home for Christmas, he little realises that he is about to be plunged into adventure. The old man entrusts Kay with a magical box that transports him through time and space, where he battles against terrifying forces."

Oh, that’s wonderful news! I absolutely adore the Box of Delights and I’m glad to see Big Finish are finally giving their own take on the tale. Must admit I didn’t expect Sir Derek Jacobi would take on Cole Hawlings (my money was on Tom Baker myself) but what a great pick he is.
Really looking forward to this!

Hmm. Interesting - I hope the sales are good enough to get us The Midnight Folk next year.
I wonder how many of the 6 CDs are drama and how many are extras - that would affect my decision on buying the physical release or not

I was listening to The Martian Invasion of Earth last night and wondering if we would ever get more BF classics (there was a side bar on the Classics page telling me that an adaption of Jekyll and Hyde was 'coming soon.' Can't wait for that!). Anyway, all of that to one side, this is really great news!

You could always have David Troughton play Abner Brown as well now that I think about it if only to have a bit of a link/nod towards his father’s performance in the 1984 series.

Many fond memories of this from the classic 1984 BBC adaptation. Who trivia: Not only was there a vastly obvious Who link in Patrick Troughton as Hawlings, there was a reverse nod given to the story in a 'Doctor Who' which would have been in production at the same time. In 'Revelation of the Daleks', when "The Great Healer" receives his "gift" from Kara, what does he call it? 'A box of delight!'
Looking forward to this CD boxset of delights from BF.

I have yet to dive that deep into BF's Classics (just Dorian and Frankenstein, although this reminds me I bought The Invisible Man on sale two Christmases ago!) and I've never heard of this one but more Derek Jacobi is always good!!

Never heard of this story before but it sounds very exciting! Love BFs original/non doctor who output as they are really good at audio drama and so i like hearing them tackle different thing definitely will be pre ordering it to support more projects like this.

How to compel me to pre-order: say there’s only 1000 copies on CD!
For all I know something like this may only get 50 pre-orders. It may take years to sell out. Can’t take that chance though so it’s an instant order from me.
The other reason is I very fondly recall watching that as a child. Have since got the DVD but never got round to watching it yet.

I would prefer NON BIG FINISH folks in it lol Given the current state of play in the UK, I’d say BF folks who record from home are best suited to producing any new UK audio dramas.

Whilst I am certainly interested in this release (I've recently re-read the book), the £35 pre-order price is maybe a little bit too pricey for me at the moment... I will say though that, if there isn't really anything else out that month of interest to me, it would still be something I'd consider getting.

I fell for it too and have pre-ordered - although I'd have liked to have known more about what we were getting in the 6 CD set - how many of those discs were extras and how many were drama?
