It's a shame that Textbook Stuff never did any more horror stories after Carmilla! I'm going to put my head on the block and state the opinion that the wonderful Miriam Margolyes was miscast as the Carmilla 'voice'. I love her, love her performances, but felt that such a sultry, sexy, sinister story might have been more effectively conveyed by, perhaps Susannah Harker or Jenny Agutter. Well, I won't chop your head off as we are all free to have different views on things! Plus the fact that you liked the performance is good news, but not essential, as I know not everybody here likes audiobook 'readings'. However, for me Miriam Margolyes did a splendid job. I can only judge others if I hear them do the same roles, but as released, Carmilla was a bloody good production with just one narrator doing all the voices and I love Miriam's performance too.

Ohh .... At the Mountains of Madness by Big Finish..... Do you know how close we got to a hard R rated true 3D film version written & directed by Gullermo Del Toro and produced by James Cameron? Really freaking close.

That is excellent news Scott. As a novel Dracula is so unique that I understand why TV & film adaptations have stayed away from the structure Stoker employed and I have long felt audio was the best medium to best translate what is on the page. I'm really pleased to read you all have decided to go in that direction. The version of Dracula that Audble made a few years ago was faithful to Bram Stoker's novel, being unabridged and narrated by different people so each voice had a different reader. It won a few audio awards at the time and it's the best version of Dracula I have heard... well, so far anyway. Audible's version of Dracula runs to something like fifteen and a half hours though, so you'd have to really love your Dracula to listen to it all in one go! Stevo on your recommendation over the festive period I got this as the free first book, and I must say it is rather excellent, I wouldn't say that I am a massive fan of the story, but this is absolutely addictive and probably one of the best audios I have listened too in a while other than Big Finish. The choice of narration is beautifully done, and the story telling is very hypnotic and draws you in very easily to the story, and the way it just flows it superb. Thank you for the recommendation.

Regarding the Audible Dracula - I've been tempted (by this very thread) to buy it, and am waiting for my next day off to listen to ... some of it!

Is it the Audible version with Alan Cumming and Tim Curry? There are so many versions of Dracula on Audible now.

Certainly that is the version that I have downloaded, but I notice there are other, similar length adaptions on offer (currently on sale, too). The BBC Radio Horror version is very good, too, but I'm not sure about Dracula: The Undead, which appears to feature Dr Seward as a morphine addict! Still, you never know.

Yes the Alan Cumming's one is the one to go for, I am about 6 hours in so far been listening on going to sleep at night, which accounts for some really weird dreams. But Steveo is right this is a really well put together and well produced drama. It does make you want to listen to more of it.

Just ordered it! Will make a nice complement to the Big Finish adaptation, which of course is already preordered.

It's great that we have Mark Gatiss playing the lead. Not only is he a terrific actor, but his love for the horror genre is well documented. I'm really looking forward to hearing more of his take on The Count. Hopefully this trailer will entice a few extra listers too.
