Dracula is in 3 parts, but comes in one huge m4b file so it looks like I'll be downloading the mp3 files and combining into 3 separate files (as I don't use iTunes). The second m4b file contains interviews, music suite and outtakes. Cheers Tony why not use the super duper app..... oh I forgot you are android.....

I managed to listen to 15 mins of this but kept getting interrupted at work. Well I really liked the little I heard so far. And Note I do work while I listen but I was being interrupted during my regular work. Just to clarify I don't sit and twiddle my thumbs and just listen to Big Finish all day. Although I wish that were true.

Addiction  In the (temporary) absence of a decent Big Finish player for Android, Smart Audiobook Player is excellent and it also plays mp3s so you don't have to redownload your whole collection to m4b . It also remembers where you left off, in fact the only downside is that you can't stream from your account. Cheers Tony

hmmmm no one seems to have posted much about the actual release.....did anyone buy it?
I have just listened to it and apart from it giving me strange dreams....where I met scott hancock in a café, who insisted his name was Snot Pandock, and he wanted me to have his autograph and wrote on the saucer of his tea cup to prove it.....what else happened I forget but that stuck!
back to Dracula on the whole I enjoyed it, not up their with coppola's even with the dodgy accents, but much better than the recent TV versions and about the same as the old BBC 7 part radio 4 version.
Probably the best compliment it's to say that gaitiss did not sound like gaitiss. Who gave an excellent understated count Dracula.
the story was pretty faithful, and rattled along at a fair old pace. I felt the end (much like the original) was rushed towards the climax, and the madness of renfield came across as pretty sane (I thick this is one place overacting is needed).
my biggest complaint it a petty one, it needed to be released later in the year listening on long bright summer evenings it just misses that warm winter glow that these tales need, and who could wait 6 months once it was in your download box!!!!
would have loved it, if they had included draculas guest short story either working it into the production or as a companion within the set.
a good solid production.

^ It was released on the anniversary of the day the novel was published May 26th.
And I bought it just haven't had the chance to listen to it yet (well besides the first 15 mins). I am looking forward to it though.

Has anyone gotten their copy in the post yet? Did they go with the same packaging style that they used for Frankenstein?

I felt like the packaging on the Frankenstein release was the most attractive and ergonomic case Big Finish has used.

The Big Finish Frankenstein release came in great packaging, just perfect for an adaptation of a classic book. Very luxurious packaging for a CD, and different; it looks perfect on a book shelf. The Frankenstein release will be very lonely now that it hasn't got Dracula to sit along side it. If I had my way I'd hunt those moaning OCD Thal scum down and exterminate them ... or something like that anyway.

I remember the feedback on our long lost BF forum as being rather positive for the packaging. Or it could have been just you & I talking about how much we liked it.

Preview impressed so much I bought it.
Well paced and some interesting takes on the roles.
Seward is more world weary, Renfield is more reasoned in his madness if you get what I mean, and Holmwood is even keeled rather then an all out snob that other versions have portrayed him as.
In this version Dracula is more subtle but there' no ambiguity in his nature he's just evil and out to rule.

Posted this elsewhere on the forum on Sunday morning:
I've been working my way through Dracula this weekend.
It's interesting, I had intended to lock myself away and hear it all at once, but I've found that it's really not 'built' to do that. It really feels very unlike what my brain typically understands as an 'audio drama,' and more like a play. A play so rich and dense it feels like reading the novel, so I'm finding it really beneficial to take breaks so I can process.
That may have read like a criticism--it wasn't. Dracula is a release that's challenging in all the right ways, and has defied my perceptions of what audio drama is. I haven't bought into all of the Classics releases, but of the ones I have, Dracula is a quantum leap in quality and achievement.
Now that I'm finished...I feel like I should listen to it all over again to pick up on the many things I surely missed!

Finished Dracula this evening; I chose to listen to this release one part/one day and found it an immensely enjoying experience for the last three evenings. (It had to be in the evening, listening to Dracula with bright sunshine streaming through the curtains just doesn't seem right!)
Mark Gatiss was brilliant as Dracula, really creepy and scary in the role... if I didn't know it was him from the publicity I'd never have guessed he was actually Dracula. The rest of the cast did a superb job too, while the production was top notch. It won't be too long before I am listening to this release again i'd say, as I liked this version of Dracula so much I want to revisit the characters again ASAP!
Dracula is probably my favourite of the Big Finish Classic releases now as it was a great adaptation. Because of the structure of the original book, coupled with the length of the novel, adapting Dracula for audio could have gone either way. However, the folks at BF got this one just right, so well done to them for that.
A solid 9/10 for this release from me.

I know this sounds like heresy, but I have always enjoyed tales of vampires and especially Dracula: the novel which spawned them all, however, I always found a little sluggish, with a wonderful central character in The Count (and the imagery of his three vampire 'brides' is perhaps even more powerful, spawning many erotic vampires stories and films) but a dull second act in which Dracula barely appears.
With that in mind, I think BF has done wonders with the original story, making the full running time entertaining and not limiting most of its chills to the first third. Dracula is given a little more to do, and - like their adaption of 'Frankenstein' - the supporting characters are rather more flawed than in the novel (Quincy's less than sober demeanour leading Harker astray, for example), with the intially imperious Mina emerging as the most level-headed of the lot. There are hints also, that The Count himself is racked by the loneliness exploited more in adaptions like 'Nosferatu' than Bram Stoker's original, which is well played by Mark Gatiss who gives a restrained and impressive performance.
BF has done good things with a less than scintillating story (just my opinion, of course!), so I'm really looking forward to hearing how they handle the better paced classic horror 'Jekyll and Hyde' in 2017.
Future horror adaptions? Apart from my relentless wish for some lovely HP Lovecraft, I have no particular favourites not already tackled by Big Finish. I know that whatever stories they adapt, they'll do it brilliantly.

I just started in on Dracula and am enjoying it thus far. Gatiss is doing some of his best ever work as the Count. And this is neither here nor there but I would love for BF to get the rights to Kim Newman's Anno Dracula books and adapt them for audio.
