I was reading somewhere that Terry Nation had intended to introduce the Daleks into Blake’s 7 glad my heroes didn’t suffer that indignity...then we would have even more Daleks.I am not a fan of crossovers at all.I didn’t want Blake to meet the Doctor I prefer this separate universe, even if the actors themselves wanted to meet up lol.Anyone in agreement with me or are you in favour of the uniting of the Who Universe...
here in Blake’s Universe we still have the mysterious Aliens from the Galactic War and who or what they are we still have the alien pathogens introduced in the war so many more things to explore, did we ever find out who wiped out the Clone masters ? Etc etc etc

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

The initial thought I had was that it would be really cool, but grownup me doesn’t need my stories to all exist in the same universe.

I honestly like the ambiguity the aliens were given in Blake's 7. I'm not up on all the Liberator Chronicles, so there might be more information there, but I'm under the impression that the creatures we meet on Star One... aren't necessarily the same as those in the fleet. As far as I'm aware, we never find out what exactly breached the perimeter and that's a very compelling idea. They can be anything. They could be the pathogens spread around after the war waiting to reach critical mass for sentience. We just don't know.

I'm pleased the two universes were kept separate. The Federation are as evil as the Daleks in their own (in)human way and if the two universes were one and the same, the Doctor would either have to not be there for some reason (and we know that a universe without the Doctor scarcely bears thinking about ) or he would be spending much of his time fighting the Federation wherever he encountered them. He couldn't just stand by and do nothing.
Also, the tone is so different. Blake's universe is, if we allow for telepaths and very advanced technology, "real", gritty and brutal. But even at its darkest, there's a suggestion of the fantastical magical about the Whoniverse and that's a big part of its appeal to me at least. I suppose creatures like the Daleks could exist in the real universe, theoretically, but I find them very hard to believe in as an actuality. Also the little matter of the Doctor skimming around the vortex in his impossible, wonderful TARDIS, a traveller from an equally impossible world of regenerating beings and mastery of Time. But within the Whoniverse, they can be real.

Great comments I guess for me am with Shutupbanks on this...I think it would detract from Blake’s 7 most definitely cross breeding the Who with the Blake I know folks like these kind of ideas but I even think the mixing of Aliens with Predators was a mistake and not creative and it’s a far more believable universe of an Earth Empire than Who could come up with

I have been really enjoying my random rewatches and even going by what we have in the audio adventures full cast and chronicles there is so much more that could be explored even without the Liberator /Scorpio crews though my preference is with them...being a different universe opens up so much to exploration I know BF still have plans and I hope we get a wee whiff of them soon

My viewpoint is that when you’re a child, having the Daleks show up would be the most exciting and greatest thing since sliced bread. When you’re an adult you’d just be scratching your head, realising it creates more questions than answers and wondering why the Doctor doesn’t show up.

It's the sort of thing that the young me (I'd have been about 12) would have loved, loved, loved at the time... but later on I'd probably have thought... "Maybe they shouldn't have done that..." I think they were right to keep B7 as its own entity, living in its own universe.

Hang on a minute, while we're on the subject, didn't the Dalek Universe press release say it was "a huge celebration of the work and imagination of Terry Nation". You don't think . . . ?
[No, I don't really think so either]

I remember Tom Baker suggesting - or it might even have been Blake's Gareth Thomas - that there should be a scene, where the Doctor is running down a corridor, and he passes Blake running the other way. "Oh, hello, Doctor," says Blake. "Hello, Roj!" says the Doctor. Then, they both continue with their adventures, the scene never mentioned again. I could almost see that happening during Graham Williams' time on Doctor Who, or as part of a BBC1 trailer at the time.
I think I would actually have quite liked that!

Yes maybe as part of a Children in need thing but not part of the history of either show I do believe that Gareth and Tom were good friends.

I think like with a lot this stuff, you have to be clever about it. We did end up with Tom Baker bumping into Gareth Thomas (for much more than a chat in a corridor), just not as Roj Blake. He played Morax, a bandaged scientist trapped on an empty world, in Last of the Colophon from the 4DAs.

Hello again.
The whole point of Blake's Seven is the monster is people. People who have put themselves in power and kept power by vicious supression using military force. The real world analogues are sadly still with us.
The thing that really made it such a powerful drama was the fact the resistance, were fallible, an uneasy alliance and distinct characters.
Terry Nation came up with a distinct alternative to tv sci-fi before Blake. Putting the Daleks is unnecessary. You have your enemy and a fascinating antagonist in Servalan.

I think with the audios the addition of the faceless president added even more.I haven’t met anyone that’s been introduced to Blake’s Seven on dvd who have not followed it through the the bitter conclusion...it’s so much like reality, the good guys rarely come out on top...they all end up on the floor facedown or face up on Guada Prime
