Openly comedic scripts for Doctor Who I find can be rather hit and miss but I do have high hopes for this one.

Openly comedic scripts for Doctor Who I find can be rather hit and miss but I do have high hopes for this one. The story was devised by Lloyd, edited by Douglas, adapted by Foutain, edited again by Dorney, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters.
I think we are in safe hands. |

This sounds a lot of fun. I loved the three Season 17 novel adaptations Big Finish did, but thought that Series 5 of the 4DAs didn't really capture it, so I'm glad this sounds something a bit more to my tastes.

Hello again.
This looks great. Season 17 on tv was my first strong memory of watching Doctor Who regularly. City of Death was the standout as the Jagaroth was terrifying. Other memories: the end of the first episode of Destiny with the shattering glass,the nasty Wolf Weeds getting K9 and the booming voices of the Nimon.
Season 17 with Douglas Adams in charge of script-editing was sci-fi with a joyous comedy twist. Unfortunately, watching the whole series recently made me realise that by focusing on the comedy made the sci-fi less effective and believable.
The series does entertain and is thankfully not as painfully panto as it's near relative season 24. Adding Shada and the three Big Finish stories to the season does really show how Adams's approach does work if the adventure element is played a little straighter.
I really enjoy John Lloyd's other work in comedy as creator, producer and writer. This adventure sounds like it will be a great addition to the series and I'm so glad that Big Finish have adapted so many of these lost stories.

Douglass Adams was script editor.......and the main plot point is more than a little similar to that which kicked off Hitchhiker's Guide...

The current DWM has a lovely intervieew with John where he manages to be both incredibly humble and also totally nonplussed about everything. They try and get him to say how excited he is about the adaptation and he keeps undercutting it saying it's nice but he wasn't hoping for it!

While everyone is excited over Return, I think Doomsday Contract is actually a slightly stronger story. There's something about the zany comedy that just works with the Doctor, Romana, and K9 while Julian Wadham leads a brilliant guest cast.

I listened to most of this one during my walk into town today (I still have a bit of part 4 to finish off before bed). Whilst I'm not sure if this would be my 'go to' re-listen story Lost Stories-wise, it's certainly a whole lot of fun!

This was highly amusing,the jokes came thick and fast,hlghly entertaining,and l listened throughout with a huge grin on my face.The Doctor Romana and K9 live from the Apollo.
