Overstuffed? Not at all imo, more a case of packed with goodies at every turn. I enjoyed it almost all (and regulars to the forum probably know by now I have a theory about 'Orphan 55' which I won't bore you with again, but which means I enjoyed that one too! ) and I thought Ashad and Villa Diodati were splendid stuff.
And this season gave us RUTHDOCTOR!
So not overstuffed, until we came to The Timeless Children finale. Which, so far as I'm concerned, was 'stuff and nonsense', as the old saying goes. But I enjoyed the rest of the season very much.
I must say, I'm surprised that yours is the first comment I expected from this thread. Not that I'm saying 'no different opinions allowed', but based on past S12 discussion on here (which tended to err on better than S12 or it's an improvement), I hadn't expected as much criticism as has been expressed on this thread. I was a bit surprised too, our 'real time' review threads on each episode were generally favourable/very favourable as I recall them. Perhaps people who don't like something are more likely to post about it again than people who do? (That's fine of course, it's all good polite discussion on here and eleven regenerations from now I'll still be posting about how much I disliked the finale, so... )

(That's fine of course, it's all good polite discussion on here and eleven regenerations from now I'll still be posting about how much I disliked the finale, so... ) Well, take me for instance: it was a season I enjoyed, but I can't really say if it was overstuffed or not at this point. Not yet. That'll depend on how much of Series 12's myth-making ends up being used in the future. I think it was certainly a lot more arc-heavy than the previous season. Series 11 seemed a lot more focussed on very individual, private sorts of stories and it was a very stark change from Twelve's last year. The companion's arc was still there, but it wasn't... what's a good word for it? Operatic. Grand, spectacle-driven, bombastic. Instead, it was about something terribly quiet. Unusually quiet. It was the first time that the revival stopped, took a deep breath and went, "This year, we're going to focus on the grief of a widower as he comes to terms with the fact that his wife is gone." And the way it's handled, there's no fantastical divide, it's quite everyday. Raw. Even the meeting in It Takes You Away is quite subdued. That's much more akin to something from the days of Andrew Cartmel's tenure on the show (and the subsequent Wilderness Years) than something we've seen more recently. Series 12, by contrast, feels much more about the traditional romp and there was definitely an element of vertigo for me going from one season to the next 1. Part of it might be that the recurring elements got the big two/three-parters, but it's important to remember... In amongst the Judoon, the Master, Jack and the Cybermen, we also got the Praxeus pathogen (which is aging shocking well...), Nikola Tesla (Goran Visnjic for Big Finish?) and the two Eternals (with their Hellbound Hearts). Four of those ten episodes -- in practical terms, half of the season -- featured no recurring adversaries or Timeless Child arc-building. Just Thirteen and the fam doing their thing. In amongst those myth arc stories, we still had some really good content in Jo Martin's Doctor, Gat (who feels like someone we've met before) and Ashad (who it would've been nice to see more of). So, a season too full of ideas? No... No, I don't think so. Ideas that will end up being underutilised? Impossible to say at this point, though I hope not. I'm keeping an open mind for the future... 1 - Kind of makes me wonder what the two seasons would look like shuffled together, actually...

Hello again. Season 12 was no more overstuffed than say Season 7B. Apart from the second half of Orphan 55 and most of The Timeless Child which wasn't as dull as Season 11's finale, I found season 12 okay. There was much I really enjoyed on my recent rewatch including Resolution. Somethings were much better some, not so much. I would like to see more of Jo Martin's Ruthless Doctor and if Mr Chibnall doesn't use her again, than Big Finish should be given a shot with this mysterious Doctor. Ashad too was a wasted opportunity, he could have been the Davros of the Cybermen, lovely performance. Great wounded version of the Master, no drumming this time, but a really fierce performance from Sacha Dhawan. JOdie too added some real grit and steel to her iteration of the Doctor, much less enthusiasm and naivety. That encounter with the Master really changed her. I also think Season twelve would have benefitted from this lovely fan-made title sequence:
I've just found this retro-version which is quite lovely:

The retro one is good, the other one is crap.

Hello again.
A bit slow perhaps, but lovely artwork?
I do like the retro version too, he's got that facial transformation element of Sid Sutton's sequence beautifully.
