Inspired by the thread Fantasy Releases!
This is a thread for characters you would like to hear in a Big Finish release.
With that in mind, Nick said on a recent podcast that a Doctor Who version of Suicide Squad was something they had in development.
Personally I don’t think it can be a homage to that film unless Big Finish create their own version of Harley Quinn.
So my fantasy character for that release would be a Time Lord who is not evil as such. Not after money or power. They just want to have fun. They are a thrill-seeker. Perhaps like the Doctor and the Master have names that represent them, that is the name they go by - Thrillseeker. If it is dangerous or exciting they want to do it. And that can often put them in opposition to authority and/or the Doctor.
Another name, if we haven’t got too many time lord’s with names ending in x, would be Kix. As in, just doing it for kicks.
Earlier incarnations could be a “surfer dude” with long hair and straggly beard, a Lara Croft style adventures and a pumped up extreme sportsman, but in this it would be a cross between two blonde and beautiful Australian women.
Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and, arguably the greatest female cricketer ever, Ellyse Perry.
So rather than wielding a baseball bat, she would have a cricket bat that she calls “Mr Woody”, which has a shield generator built in to protect her from hostile projectiles and allow her to bat the bullet or bomb back at her assailant. She might not be armed, but “a girl has to protect herself”
She would join the squad with the promise of another set of regenerations as she has used all her lives up very quickly. It could also transpire that she had already gone through more than thirteen incarnations. “This an’t my first rodeo.”
She is wanted for the team because she has already been to where they need to go. “I regenerated once getting in and twice getting out. A ripper day!”
Well that is my fantasy character pitch.

I once had an idea for a Doctor Who RPG I was running that one adventure would revolve around an character who was perfectly ordinary aside from the fact that they were completely unaffected by changes in time.
Someone could go back in time and say alter history to allow the Nazis to win the war and this character would still be around. Or worse case scenario where humanity was wiped out before it had a chance to evolve. Intact in a new future he’s woken up in possessing all their memories of the previous timeline and still very much confused. A walking paradox if you will.
No one would know the origin behind his strange ability. Perhaps they were the result of someone higher up in the universe forgetting to carry the 0 but UNIT and other agencies would take an interest in them.

For my contribution to the Doctor Who Suicide Squad idea, I’m imagining one of the participants is a Time Lord for whom the regeneration process doesn’t work properly.
Something went wrong the first time he regenerated and all that regenerative energy hasn’t dissipated but rather have built up over time where he has become the equivalent to a walking nuclear reactor. Able to shoot beams of regenerative energy and the like but if said energy overreacts he’ll become critical and explode with the force of several nuclear bombs. An explosion which will obliterate him beyond even regeneration.
I’m imagining the Time Lords have kept him in stasis all this time and have merely thawed him out for this mission with the possibility of a cure. No doubt he’d be a meek sort who wouldn’t exactly condone the actions of his villainous teammates. Especially The Master.
Think the Eleventh Doctor’s explosive first regeneration in Time of the Doctor as an example or Weapon E from one of the Companion Chronicles.

My contribution to the Doctor Who Suicide Squad is simply known as Billy (his real Galifreyian name is far too complicated even for other Timelords to say.) He’s an intelligent and kind hearted Timelord who is misunderstood because his most recent regeneration went wrong and caused him turn into a mostly nonhuman animal like creature resembling a combination between mammals and amphibians. Billy is covered in fur and scales with webbed feet and antlers. Despite this he is very much still a gentleman, he has a preference for the Earth garment of the tuxedo and he always wears his trademark half moon glasses. He also has powerful telepathic powers that he can use to help people or blow up entire planets if pushed far enough, he also has super strength due to his current form, can breathe under water due to having gills, and is a very talented piano player and singer. He also has a secret desire to settle down on early 20th century earth. Despite his monsterous form he is a total hopeless romantic.
He was once very high raking in Galifreyian Society before his regeneration went haywire. He is now forced to hire himself out to criminals as he believes they are the only people who will associate with him now. Missy is also the cause of Billy’s haywire regeneration, she seduced him and then poisoned him with something that caused his current affliction. This of course causes conflict with the team (DW Suicide Squad) as Billy is still furious at what she did to him.
Billy is also searching for a cure for his condition and thinks if he can track down the Doctor they could help cure him.
Side note: Since this is a fantasy character Billy is played by Hugh Laurie.

I've said it once, I'll say it again: Superhero companion. I just think it'd be a super interesting dynamic with any Doctor.

Could he be used to heal the other members of the Suicide Squad, so that when he does “goes off” it isn’t quite so nuclear....and because I like a happy ending he survives the blast and regenerates normally?

So should I be picturing Billy with scales instead of skin and fur instead of hair? Or is it more complicated than that? We do need some none human looking time lords. I remember shadow houses were mentioned in Trial of the Valeyard, where those who’s regeneration has gone wrong resided. It is about time Big Finish did something with them. Oh and I have to say - I can picture Kix using Billy’s antlers as a makeshift catapult at some point in the story!

Sure. If we’re to presume he’s not exactly the villainous sort than I’d imagine he’d prefer using his ‘talents’ for the purposes of healing (how far he could heal someone is another matter entirely) than for offensive capabilities such as taking out a Dalek or two with beams of destructive energy. I would imagine that inevitably an adventure or the finale of of a few adventures for this Suicide Squad of Time Lords would have to end with him going critical and exploding. Perhaps taking out a Dalek base whilst the other Renegades make their escape back to Gallifrey. Narvin or whoever is in charge of this group would naturally presume he’s dead as they can’t find any trace of them and remark what a pity it was. If they could have figured out just how he worked exactly they could have augmented a few of the Gallifreyan soldiers to have similar abilities. As for a happy ending, I could see a post credit scene where the very surprised Time Lord crawls out of the rubble, takes a look around at his completely obliterated surroundings and remarks something along of the lines of ‘Now that’s a turn up for the books.’ They’d be no physical signs of his condition (really like your idea of pent up regeneration energy showing on his skin) so it’d be left ambiguous whether the expulsion of that much regeneration energy has cured him completely or simply burned through whatever incarnations he has left. Whatever the case may be, he intends not to find out for a long time yet as he plans to live a long and hopefully uneventful life. Of course, this would mean the Time Lords would have to pick a new candidate for the Suicide Squad. So there you go. Not sure what title you’d give to such a character though.

I think that is the way Big Finish will probably go with existing villains, which would be in keeping with the Suicide Squad concept and would be a strong selling point especially with the cast list you have compiled. However new characters would allow a bit of jeopardy as we would expect any existing villains to survive. Plus The Eleven was a great concept, so how about some more. And if this story was set in the Time War it would allow origin style stories for the members in the future, encountering past Doctors. And as for Thandie Newton as the Rani...that would certainly be a casting coup!!

For a name, how about KC Not as in KC and the Sunshine Band, although I do like the reference to the wielding of his power being like a solar flare. KC would be short for Kill or Cure. Not being fully in control of his power he is reluctant to use it. He cannot be certain if he is trying to heal someone he won’t do the opposite. And when using it as a weapon it might have the opposite effect on his target.

Possibly since the time of the First Doctor. So when he was thawed out come the Time War, he’d be very much out of his element hence his rather meek and reserved personality. Not to mention unlike his fellow Time Lords, he wouldn’t be as aware of the reputation of the Master and other renegades leading to him being appalled by their villainous acts. I could see the Master goading him in the midst of one fire fight until he gets so frustrated that lashes out and disintegrates the Dalek firing upon them. An act which would intrigue and impress both the Master and the Rani.

Timelord identical twins
Noelis and Sileon (I cannot decide if it should be double l i.e. Noellis and Silleon)
They are in effect two sides of the one whole. Permanently linked telepathically to one another. Which makes them very useful in the Suicide Squad if the team has to divide somewhere that normal means of communication would not be possible.
At a very early age they regenerated and split in two. Each only has one heart and they do not remember being any different than they are now.
When together they continuously finish off each other’s sentences and are inseparable. They don’t need to speak to talk to each other, so others find this unnerving. They have no need for friends as they have each other.
Unfortunately during a mission whilst they are apart Noelis is seriously injured and has to regenerate. When he does so he becomes a completely new man and is no longer linked to his brother telepathically.
Although Noelis seems happy to finally be “his own man” Sileon is distraught and putting the Suicide into Suicide Squad kills himself in the hope that he will become the same as his brother and regain that connection. It doesn’t work.
Noelis discovers that he has the telepathic ability to get into another’s head and become their inner voice or conscious, urging people to do things that they wouldn’t otherwise do.
KIX: Noelis get out of my head. I know it’s you. I am not going to do “that” especially not with you, even if you are a lot cuter than you were.
Therefore Noelis is still part of the team and starts to develop relationships with the others.
Where as Sileon is no use to anyone and is still very much a loner...a lonely loner. He becomes bitter and twisted, blaming the members of the squad for getting his brother killed. He still loves his brother, but hates the popular person he has become.
So Sileon decides that they will have to die together. The new Noelis is understandably not keen on that notion.
Long story short Sileon achieves his wish of the double regeneration. They die wrapped in an embrace with their regeneration energy intertwining as they renew themselves. And two become one.

For a purely comedic release, I really like the idea of a persistent autograph hunter who is determined to collect all the autographs of the various incarnations of the Doctors.
Could even make it an anthology release with the autograph hunter linking all these separate adventures with the various Doctors together.

How about a fan/collector wanting to get a lock of each Doctor’s hair...would make the encounter with Nine interesting!? Plus perhaps someone with nefarious intentions wants to get hold of that collection. With all that DNA data they then plan to grow a composite Doctor? It might add to the comedic nature of the episode...

The Doctor thinking that this collector has some nefarious plans to gather fragments of his DNA when in actuality the collector is just a fan. And quite frankly appalled that his hero thinks he’d ever do something so insidious.
