From these admittedly brief clips his performance reminds me most of how he was in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Just gonna say the same thing. Sounding like from Dalek onward when he seemed to find that extra "Doctorness" Regards mark687

Really great trailer, both visually and how Eccleston quite rightly dominates. I agree that his performance sounds different, a bit more excitable and actually much less Northern. For me, it isn't the Ninth Doctor I imagine, which isn't to say I dislike it, but I do think it's more akin to Chris playing the role as though he had a second, third, etc. series than the 13 episodes we got. You can chalk it up to something pre-Rose, and for all we know there might be an arc of sorts running through the sets that takes us into that on screen portrayal. The Colin comparison is a good one, except I find the "Ol' Sixie" he plays for Big Finish so different to what he's like on screen they might as well be different incarnations.
As I said on the first announcement, it's a really exciting coup, but I have always loved how tight knit and contained his era felt. I don't think you can do a massive amount without losing that really; again, not necessarily a bad thing, but perhaps more notable than it would be for any other Doctor.
Very much looking forward to the set and hearing these clips in their context.

Having listened to the trailer I believe I'm supposed to say "Do be quiet Big Finish and take my debit card details!".....or something like that anyway...😝
May cannot come soon enough.

I was going to say, he sounds younger! Which isn't usually what happens when someone returns to a role after sixteen years... Love hearing Chris again - a great actor, always. Hope he gets some good drama to play in amongst the running and shouting.
(Also who else punched the air on the Fantastic?)

It suddenly occurs to me that best evidence that this is set before Rose is the line reading for 'fantastic.' It does sound like it's the first time he's used it as the catchphrase, like he was searching for a word and settled on that being the perfect fit.

I’m curious... Are there any forumites that aren’t getting this release next month? If so, is it a deferment, or simply not being bothered about it? If anyone isn't getting it they should have their account deleted lol

Eccleston sounds really enthused. This could be very very good.

Edit: I should think nobody’s getting it next month. Likely the month after that (at time of writing). Getting ahead of myself. 🙄 I wont be getting it on release, because 1. I'm not really bothered about TV Doctor Who, even more so the Nu-Who bit 2. I've got the first 10th Doctor box set, which was accompanied by similar hysteria when announced, and it is ok...but once the dust had settled nothing more. 3. I will probably get this at some point as I like Chris as a bloke and his take on the character 4. I very rarely get stuff on release, the download is going nowhere. How's that for starters?

(And did anybody else think that Eccleston was channelling Tennant?)

I would say this is very different from the first Tennant set though. That was three one-hour stories which they were actively trying to evoke the RTD era with. This is a single three-hour story which is, as far as I can tell, supposed to be a new direction from the Ninth Doctor. I think BF have realised that with the new series stuff keeping it in the style of the new TV series doesn't really work (hence Dalek Universe). It's just my opinion, but I really don't think this can be compared to the first Tennant set.

A good theory...but it isn't even out yet so saying it is very different, when we haven't even heard it, seems a bit much. Let's see once it comes out. I'm not comparing anything to anything btw, I'm just not buying this on release and will see if I fancy buying it a bit further down the line. I said the hype was similar, not the stories. I cant get super excited about something I'm not really in to, but I like good stories and if this is good count me in. Nice to have Chris onboard as I've said.

It's great how clearly Eccleston seems to be having fun, especially after his bad experiences on the show. There's nothing half-hearted or reluctant in his performance here.

It's just my opinion, but I really don't think this can be compared to the first Tennant set. I think Dalek Universe is more about having the opportunity to record something more long-form with Tennant than usual (and the Tennant lockdown stuff has also been informed by the fact that they seemingly haven't been able to record with any of his TV companions). I do get a sense of evoking the RTD era from the trailer - the big climax is "fantastic!" and the Deviant Strain font is all over it, after all. They also have four volumes to play with, and I'd expect a fair bit of variety in these sets.

Just listened to the trailer. There is a man giddy with excitement. Eccleston's performance reminds me a little of that first time you discover the TARDIS in a magazine or television and just revel in the whole idea of the thing. No wonder we've already got four volumes up for pre-order. I don't think you could contain that enthusiasm in just one. I'll have to hang back because of budgetary concerns from the initial rush of purchases until finances permit, but... *nods* This is going to be fun.
