I'm thinking of taking on this foolhardy challenge. Just a few gaps in my collection to fill.

Best of luck Johnhurtdoctor. I suggest stocking up on your coffee supplies as itโll be one hell of a listen.

I done this a couple of years ago and it's quite a journey, although mine was before the MR ended, but it's definitely a journey worth doing. Good luck!

I was thinking of going through what I own of the Main Range. I still havenโt heard all of the first 50 despite them being free on Spotify and most of my current backlog is Main Range Iโve picked up from sales.

Well I had planned a long walk this afternoon anyway, so figured Iโd make a start-
1. The Sirens of Time
I think I was overly harsh on this first listen. Itโs very well produced, considering itโs the first one, and well plotted. The one-shots are brief but effective, more so Iโd say than those of The End of the Beginning, and it all fits together rather well. A good start.

You know what would be fun? On GB, they have a thread that started a couple years ago (well think it started on the 50th so closer to a decade actually ๐) where they pretended it was November 1963 and roleplayed watching the show for the first time using the actual dates for each story but instead of November 23rd 1963 its November 23rd 2013, ect ect.
This September we could party like its 1998 (โOh no it isnโt!โ) and go from there ๐๐ i would certainly have fun hahah.
โHmmm i liked Oh No it isnโt but if Dragons wraith is indicative of their content going forward, i think ill save my pennies!โ

The individual stories of each Doctor aren't that interesting, it's more a case of getting through them to find out what is going on in the final part, which does have a couple interesting ideas. The dialogue is a bit clunky & over expositionary. Peter sounds a bit off in this, takes him a while to get back into character. If this was the first Big Finish audio I had heard it wouldn't have captured my interest enough to make me want to listen to any more.

Well it held my interest fine enough and Colin's gives a massively improved performance from his very 1st line. Regards mark687

It is quite clever in that we have the 3 episodes as a reintroduction to each Doctor and then the Doctors at the end together. Looking back it is quite an effective way of launching the main range and showcasing what BF wanted to offer. For me, the question when listening to this was 'could Doctor Who work on audio?' and this answers in the positive. Baker is much better and Davison/McCoy end up getting into the swing of things pretty quickly (certainly Davison is on form for the next release). After the BBC Radio Plays (which were rather mixed), BF showed that Doctor Who was in safe hands. With exception of a few iffy releases, the Main Range hits its stride very quickly and there are some real crackers in that first 50 and beyond.

I was going to create a spreadsheet but I don't have to! Someone called ExistentialDM on reddit has already done that. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will find this useful. I think I will adapt it slightly with scores & maybe a few comments for future reference. Here is a link to the reddit post.

Phantasmagoria. Very run of the mill story, not helped by the am-dram acting. Mark Gatiss & David Walliams are annoyingly hammy, Mark Strickson in particular is very wooden in his performance. The whole thing feels like a fan made release. Early days I guess.

003. Doctor Who: Whispers of Terror. This was good, a nice use of the audio format, a couple of nods to Macbeth. But 6 is still his unlikeable self from the tv show.

There's a wonderful scene in the TARDIS where Peri and Sixie are arguing and Sixie says, knowingly, 'If I were...' and then stops and lightens up. This incarnation is more spiky in this one, but there are subtle shifts in the characterisation. It marks the beginning of a better portrayal. I agree, The Marian Conspiracy is the beginning of the Sixie we love, but the signs are in this one too.

The January 2000 release (number 4) is next on the listening list. Landing in Alaska, the Doctor and Nyssa encounter a group of people in a most unusual house, cut off not only by the harsh climate but by their individual secrets and obsessions.
Millionaire Shaun Brett is utilising chunks of the local area to construct a shrine to his dead father. But when deadly creatures start roaming outside, and a terrifying discovery is made inside the house, the Doctor realises that Brett has unleashed an unimaginably ancient force.
