Sixie gets wrapped up in historicals where famous crooks seem to be stuck in strange unrealities. But which is the greater score?

I don’t have as many issues with Medicinal Purposes as some others do but I do think The Doomwood Curse is by far the superior story.
It really does so much with the idea of the Doctor and Charley simply meeting Dick Turpin than you’d normally expect.

No contest. Doomwood by a mile.

Doomwood if only because of Jacqueline Rayner's inability to not give a knockout script and clearly giving the performers something over the top but heartfelt. I really do like Medicinal Purposes, but that one's really dark and trying to do different things.

Strangely enough, I actually preferred Medicinal Purposes... The Doomwood Curse was ok, but I found Medicinal Purposes a more enjoyable listen. Maybe I thought Burke & Hare were more entertaining than Dick Turpin?!

Took me longer than normal for these Threads to decide but i think its Medicinal Purposes cause I think Doomwood is trying to establish the new status quo too soon after The Event and be lighthearted at the same time, where as Medicinal is an established status quo with a solid story/setting and strong guest cast.

Both have briilliant, rich and satisfying Gothic scripts full of period atmosphere and criminal goings-on, and I loved both stories, but imo they're too different to really compare.
'Medicinal Purposes' is dark and sinister and semi-historical, 'The Doomwood Curse' is a literary gallop with more than a touch of 'Blackadder' and a lot of fun, and real history is left hanging on by its fingernails.
Stand and deliver! I'll take both.
