That synopsis of The Lost Resort does sound uncomfortably close to reality and it's hard not to think from reading it that the right thing was done in delaying these. Glad we're finally getting to hear them all the same.

This seems to be a 4 disc box set - I thought the new post-MR boxsets were going to be 3 disc?

I really like the sound of all three of those stories. Even the Dalek one sounds like it might be trying something different.

Also do we think this is going to be the format of the monthly boxsets - “X & other stories” cos i quite like that actually, better than the fifth doctor volume 1 for example.
Also as for the release I'm excited altho i don’t have the other stories so i probs will have to wait to get this (or get this and wait to listen) sounds like a cracking set though and an interesting story.

I wish they’d list the length of each story and how many episodes they are. Its 4 discs and we know the lost resort is a four parter so the others will be two parters. But yes that might get annoying soon if they don’t tell us having to guess.

Before seeing the news: I wonder if any more new Fifth Doctor and Nyssa will be made... After seeing the news: Here Big Finish, take my money! Tim.

EDIT Its confirmed in the News Piece

Also do we think this will be the end for marc before starting a new slate? Seems weird creating a new entry point if they are going to have them have a backlog already.

I honestly have no idea when it comes to Marc as a character. After all he’s been through, I’m not even sure what his natural end point as a character would be. Could quite easily see this being the last few stories featuring him or merely continuing on for the new era of Big Finish.

It's not stated on the product page, which I can appreciate could be misleading to browsers. Three two part tales plus an hour of extras? I guess many fans were similarly confused when this double pack release of eight episodes turned out to be a two part tale and a six parter. Some licence fee payers may have been slightly disappointed, annoyed even at the amount of airtime given over to news from Skaro:

These were both originally monthly range stories (The lost resort and a release that would have been called Perils/Nightmare.) they have now been made into a boxset. You are getting 4 discs of story content.

What I meant by that was that not knowing the fact, one could make the assumption that the fourth hour was extras time, without scrolling down the print of the news page or of this thread. Sometimes when looking at run times and numbers of discs on the product pages I do wonder how much of that is actual story content, as the extras discs mean nothing to me. You have all informed me on the thread, but I think the web pages where you go to actually purchase them, need to be clearer on this.

There are three stories, so perhaps the fourth disc is all interviews.
If that's right, then I hope this is more of an outlier because it means each story is about an hour, and then there's an hour of interviews. While BF has done some wonderful hour long episodes, I strongly prefer 1.5h-2.5h ones (provided they aren't padded). A lot more can happen in a longer story. (One of the reasons I was sad McGann left the main range entirely).

Ahh, My bad, but yes you are right as some boxsets have the extra disc and some don’t and other little things like that which makes the buying experince sometimes unclear

In a slightly more serious tone than my last post, I’m genuinely unsure as to the idea of mixing the line-up in a single box set. It doesn’t seem... ideal. Casual purchasers *might* be surprised. I’m sure BF will make it clear on the details that accompany the stories. They're not - The Lost Resort features Adric's ghost! And, yeah, these were both Main Range audios so were meant to be four hours total, nothing to do with the "Replacement Main Range" of 3-hour stories!

Extras used to be one of the key attractions for me when the DVD releases were building up. I used to scour the early ones to the last Easter egg, so I can appreciate why they are there. Nowadays though I am mainly key episode content only, owing to time availability and a lower attention span, so tend to be wary of 'special editions' that amount to a higher price and fancy or outsized packaging. Basically they should consider detailing the episode numbers and run times, which seems a reasonable ask to me. Anyhow - this set seems pretty decent value for 8 episodes so no complaints of the content there

Kinda excited for this box set. Five's recent arc with Marc has been his most interesting since Erimem left the TARDIS in my opinion. I love how fragile he is in those stories, being afraid of letting Marc down, because he can't seem to forget and let go of Adric. That's something that should have been explored in the TV series - same as Nyssa and her relationship with the Ainley Master who killed her father - so I'm glad it's finally being dealed with. Plus Davison can be excellent when his Doctor is at his most vulnerable.
