That may be my new favorite piece of BF advertising. As interesting as it was, it doesn't tell you anything about the stories, about what role Adric plays, what role the Daleks play. It's very enjoyable, but only as a teaser of sorts, something to announce the set maybe, not as a trailer. Nobody who wasn't already planning to get this release is now ready to buy it because of this trailer, whereas other trailers make you excited for a story, they give you a hint as to what you get, they make you ravenous for it. Honestly, I find it kind of funny how people on this site will be pissed off at the upcoming releases in the Lost Stories range not being 'proper lost stories,' but are willing to give this trailer a pass. Like, I love the trailer, I do, but that doesn't make it actually good. I think you are way overthinking it. And I would argue if you love something, then it has done all it needs to do.

Maybe for some people... but we don't all need to be wrapped in cotton wool so I personally wouldn't see it as a reason not to release it. It's still just fiction at the end of the day. You are... well frankly, you don't understand how human beings work. This is a heartless and inconsiderate me-first point of view, and frankly, I wish I were disappointed, but it's not surprising. Thank you for your kind words, and welcome to the real world ... where some people might actually have a different opinion to you and sometimes see things in a different way. That's life!

Uwah... drama. How unpleasant.
Myntake, such as it is, is that meaningful media always has the risk of triggering people's unpleasant memories. Our present pandemic state is deeply tragic and exceedingly unpleasant, but our experiences of loss, anxiety and grief are not unique. Fiction always runs the risk of hitting people right where it hurts, because writers will never know the life experiences of their audience at the time they consume the story. And trying to tiptoe around that reality is an exercise in futility.
There are definitely good arguments for postponing the release of certain stories due to current events, but I don't really see that case here (from what I've read). EG a story about Daleks engineering a mind-control serum they convince a population to take by offering it up as a vaccine would be in enormously poor taste right now, because it would play in to very dangerous contemporary conspiracy theories that are actively harming human society.
Like, losing friends and being stuck in unpleasant health care facilities are always going to be very relatable and potentially triggering, pandemic or no pandemic.

If the premise, which is known beforehand, would actually cause someone pain, wouldn't they just not listen to it?

FFS the simple most easiest and effective solution is simply Don’t buy the audio This goes for people who are angry that certain actors appear in audios Simply just don’t purchase it
It’s that simple No one should be denied the chance to listen to an audio that has someone controversial or a controversial topic, people should be able to make the decision to choose to listen to it or not for themselves
It’s like saying that people shouldn’t eat steak because someone can’t chew it

I thought The Lost Resort was fantastic. Very bittersweet and lead by a powerful performance from Peter Davison. The opening 10 minutes of Part Two are a real tour de force from him. I’ve always felt his Doctor excels on audio where he doesn’t always on TV. Part of that is he’s not always given time to shine and part of it is Davison now has that wonderful aged voice that contrasts nicely with the youthful looking Doctor. I also think the Marc arc in particular wrestles with humanity and its TARDIS team, which is perfect for the Fifth Doctor, but again is quite overlooked on screen.

Well, despite the prolonged delay and sensitive issues, The Lost Resort and Other Stories is a magnificent Fifth Doctor boxset. Full of character-driven and emotional moments with nostalgic music, the return of Adric and the Daleks. And last but not least, a heartbreaking yet bittersweet farewell to Marc. Now onto... {Spoilers for Nightmare of the Daleks:} Despite it being a two-parter, Nightmare is my favourite story in this anthology. The script itself made the titular villains extremely terrifying and threatening, which sort of reminded me of Stranger Things and its 80s nostalgia. I was pleasantly surprised by the twist in the second half, revealing that these Daleks existed only by memory. And with Marc's departure, while his sacrifice wasn't a rehash of Adric's tragic death, I loved how he made the right choice to remain on XB93 to save his friends; not to mention him referencing Cybermen and Slitheen by name.
With that said, I might as well do a Short Trip where the Tenth Doctor returns to XB93 during his "final reward" tour. PS: Considering that they were originally intended to be Main Range releases 268 and 269, I wonder if they'll add the PDF scripts and extended extras (interviews and music suites)?

Unfortunately I didn’t reckon much to The Perils of Nellie Bly. I get what it’s trying to do, contrasting two darker and heavy stories either side, but the titular character isn’t very likeable and I thought the whole thing was a touch dull. There’s interesting things to do with Bly, I’d have been fascinated by something involving her exposé on asylums, or even some of her work for the Pittsburgh Dispatch. A couple of days during her travel around the world isn’t terribly interesting, certainly not to me and certainly not the way it’s done in the actual story.

Loved Nightmare of the Daleks. It’s a great concept and use of the Daleks that actually doesn’t feel like it’s capitalised on as much as it could; I’d liked to have seen it as a four parter. Marc’s departure is wonderfully understated and ticks all the right boxes for me. It’s not a predictable death, it suits his character well, he’s finally getting the rest after going through the wringer throughout the whole arc and it doesn’t undermine later Nyssa and Tegan adventures.
It’s been a fantastic set of stories on the whole. I thought Nellie Bly was a weak link and I wish Time Apart connected to the wider story a touch more, but it’s been a pleasure listening to these and experiencing a new TARDIS team. I hope they do some in between adventures at a later date; there’s certainly scope for them and I’d like Marc’s Cyber upgrade to come into play a little more.

We both done a lot of metaphorical growing up over the last few years…….and that’s for the best. you were the first person I knew, who suffered the worst fate from the pandemic, how could my heart not go out to you……still does. this time has done some terrible things, but it has also made us see the best in this world and brush away the crap….. Glad we’re sorted…….means a lot to me…..you take care dude.

The Last Resort….what a beautiful story. A beautifully sad and a beautifully hopeful story. I found myself thinking of that great Nicolas Meyer quote from Star Trek II, how we deal with death is at least equally important as how we deal with life. Adric’s death was the defining event of the 5th Doctor’s tenure, so it was nice almost 40 years later to have the Doctor really trying to process that grief and work through his sense of loss. A doctor has a duty of care and no Doctor takes that as seriously as number 5. Everyone is on fine form but Davison & Waterhouse are firing on all thrusters. It is also amazing to me just how much Big Finish has been able to rehabilitate Tegan. On the telly I always found her written too shrill whereas Big Finish have unlocked the comedic potential of the character and Janet Fielding is such a funny performer. In recent years the Main Range 5th Doctor stories under the guidance of Scott Handcock became yearly highlights, that streak is carried through with this story. Gorgeous stuff.

I love everything about this set. Stories 2 and 3 were both excellent, and in another set or told on their own they would probably be stars. However, in this set, they are just "the other two stories", because how can they compare with The Lost Resort? It truly is a work of art, and long overdue. Others have said it better than I, and I would just be repeating their comments. But it truly is outstanding.
I do have one thing to say about Nightmare of the Daleks. It was a good exit for Marc, but I am sorry to see him go so soon. I really wanted to see more of his development after his experience in Conversion. It seems that gone are the days of taking a new character and allowing them space to develop (thank goodness for Constance). I was really hoping Marc would be as long a companion as Hex or Lucie, or even Erimem. Ah well. As I said, it was a good exit.

To be fair, there is no clear sign of the passage of time between Lost Resort and Perils and Perils and Nightmare, so he could have had any number of adventures there, plus I don't remember if it's mentioned how long it is between Tartarus and Interstitial and Interstitial and Feast and Feast and Warzone. So there's plenty of time for more adventures before and after his conversion, if I'm recalling correctly. My hope is that our baby boy will return in time!

And one more thing about The Last Resort, I was struck by the score and how Vangelis like it was in spots which in turn got me thinking about Blade Runner and how much that film influences this story. And as a slight connected side note, both Blade Runner & Earthshock both premiered in 1982.

Just finished this after doing a listen through of all the Marc stories. Everything Scott Handcock touches is golden.
