If they want to do a follow-up event across incarnations and mediums, there's a piece of DW canon that we've barely seen, despite it being first mentioned in 1974... The Sontaran-Rutan War. Have we honestly never seen that before? Seems like they’ve missed a trick in not depicting it fully if that is the case.

Have we honestly never seen that before? Seems like they’ve missed a trick in not depicting it fully if that is the case. "Barely" is what I said buuuut looking it up, that word might be a stretch. Here's every time the Sontarans and Rutans have appeared in the same story: The First Sontarans Time Lord Fairy Tales: The Three Little Sontarans Doctor Who Files: Blind Terror The Shakespeare Notebooks: The Dream The Gunpowder Plot The Instruments of War The Sontaran Games Lords of the Storm Shakedown Mindgame Trilogy The Taking of Chelsea 426 Pureblood Prisoners of Time: In Their Nature The Infinity Doctors But a lot of those are very short and/or obscure, so I think there's still a good amount of room there. There certainly hasn't been an arc based around it!

Apparently the vinyl is limited to 1,000 and they’re numbered by hand on the inner sleeve. I think that shows how niche this is, especially when Amazon had these consistently in stock for a good couple of weeks after the pre-orders went live. Makes you wonder how many Big Finish have and how many are being sat on by the supposed international retailers. Yeah all this stuff is quite niche, the other vinyl releases had hand numbering I think. Echoes is already up on ebay £55! Although The Minds Of Magnox is still available on Amazon at the RRP.

I enjoyed that. It’s efficient with its time frame, characterises the Doctors interestingly and plays with some interesting ideas. Tennant as post-TLV Ten is the main draw and well done. He’s noticeably more to the point than usual, but is clearly trying to make amends.
A satisfying end to TLV.

It’s just part of the farce surrounding this release really. In the behind the scenes they talk like it’s a Big Finish production, say it’s Big Finish’s first original vinyl... except we’re told it’s not them. Genuinely feels like Big Finish have signed a contract without really understanding what it entailed. Just got round to the behind the scenes and it is weird that Demon Records’ role is never acknowledged. It really feels like Big Finish were going for a big victory lap (First original vinyl! McGann and Tennant!) for themselves and only acknowledged Demon’s role when the heat over the lack of CD hit.

We said it at the time and it’s not changed in the months since. Indeed it’s just gotten more and more clear as time has gone on and more details are revealed. They weren’t going to credit Demon Records whatsoever until they got flack for the lack of CD release and then decided to try and pass it on to them. We wouldn’t have known until the vinyl was released and even then we’d probably think DR just did the distribution on Big Finish’s behalf.

I don't understand why they didn't explain it all to begin with. What would have been the big deal?

As always, I've no idea what goes on behind the scenes - maybe the publicity for Demon Records is a concession in a renegotiation brought on by pandemic considerations and how they affected distribution or something?
I mean, I know Nick sounds uncannily like both Daleks and Cybermen but I like to think he's still one of us? :-)

Haven't had a chance to listen to this yet, and am therefore not reading posts, so forgive me if this has already been addressed in the conversation... but I've just archived this and am curious on the split. Are the 8th and 10th Doctors' stories separated because they don't interact with each other? If so, that'd be pretty unfortunate... the promise of a McGann/Tenant crossover was the most appealing part of the whole TLV project to me....

Thank you! That's pretty disappointing, but hopefully I'll be better able to enjoy it now that I won't be blindsided by unmet expectations.

Well that was OK, I have only listened to a couple of the TLV audios & not been very impressed tbh & not really partaking in anything outside of audio for this idea. I did like that it was a bit different to the usual multi-Doctor stories with them not meeting which I thought was a plus point as there seem to be loads of multi-doctor stories now & they have lost their appeal to me tbh. Will be interesting to listen to it in a different order.

As a stand-alone coda to the other 3 8th Dr stories, it was good. I haven't been following all the other comics/books/goodness-knows-what-else included in this event, but the audios made sense on their own, especially with the Short Trip intro to the Kutturuh, although I have no idea what eventually happened to them and why 10 is so angst-ridden. Still, messing about with history and the Web of Time is bound to cause problems, isn't it?
