I finished the second story. While it is not as good or clever or intriguing as the first story, it is non-the-less enjoyable. It is more of a standard 3rd Doctor story. The characters however are great, the hunting obsessed Squire of the land and the Vicar (and his cook). I could picture the setting very well, with the snowy weather, the rural village and pub, thanks to the sound design. The story itself however.... as I said, it is pretty standard, and I was more than once reminded of a certain recent Sixie monthly range release that was a bit similar
{Spoiler}
because it also featured alien beasts and hunters Most important however:
I enjoyed myself. What more could you want?

Gave this a listen today whilst doing some glossing; the glamour!
I’m not keen on Alan Barnes normally, but was looking forward to Conspiracy in Space based on the posts in this thread. It’s got the usual Barnes trappings and lacks subtly. The Doctor is written as “good grief” and “reverse the polarity”. Jo is little more than pop culture references (a la The Beatles in The Three Doctors). The script can’t resist mentioning it’s inspired by Bond. Ultimately I thought it was fine; nothing good, nothing bad. The conspiracy itself isn’t very gripping and it should’ve pushed the envelope by leaning into the thriller and adventure far more than it does.
The Devil’s Hoofprint I loved! It’s a nice reminder of how good the Third Doctor and Sarah are together. Sadie Miller gives it her all and forces Tim Treloar to bring his A-game after a string of poor performances. I enjoyed the location hopping and the two time periods, although I wish the Brigadier subplot was more substantial, as I thought his game of cat and mouse was great. And it’s got one of the most memorable guest casts to grace a Big Finish production. Proper good stuff.

I really don't like Treloar as the Third Doctor. The impressionist who can do a flawless Pertwee was my dream casting for the role, but apparently he does the Brigadier instead. What a waste.

Is there such a thing as a flawless impression/interpretation of another actor over many box sets? Would Jon Culshaw nail 'Pertwee' perfectly time after time in every story?
I didn't like Tim Treloar at first, although mainly I took exception to how Big Finish initially presented the 3DAs, I didn't like the narration in the first volume either. However, I get what BF are trying to do and it does give the opportunity for us to relive a classic period of the show with new adventures from an era that would otherwise have been lost. Tim Treloar does a fine job as the Third Doctor and I now find the 3DAs more enjoyable than a lot of the new series stuff. Sure, Tim Treloar's 'Pertwee' is not 100% perfect, but then again the older Katy Manning isn't a perfect young Jo Grant either, and they are the same person!
Jon Culshaw's 'Brigadier' is very good too, so it's most definitely not a waste, as that's another character that would have been lost to us otherwise. Overall I think BF have got it right.
What volumes of the 3DAs have you heard so far?

I think its very easy to gripe isn’t it?For me Jon Pertwee was a big part of my growing up and to relive tales in a full cast rather than narration was a great plus for me.There is nothing perfect in life and regardless of Tims portrayal which i think is excellent in my minds eye i see Jon performing and a young Jo.(so job done IMO) I think and i may be wrong we are becoming a very “moany” crowd about stuff now. and i totally agree with you i find the 3DA a very much go to set of stories.

I've listened to all the 3DA productions and the associated short stories etc.
Treloar I will live with, it's just when you hear Culshaw's Pertwee in an audiobook or whatever it makes me mourn for what could have been. I like the idea of using the daughters of Johns and Sladen too, whoever decided to do that was inspired. It's the reconstitution of a UNIT family at the moment and that aspect is fantastic.
