Wowzer! I quite enjoyed Ravagers, but this is a huge step up. Classic RTD style, but without his excesses .
Girl Deconstructed is just the story I think this set needed to open with. McMullin delivers one of her best, with Jana Lee making an excellent one off character(though each story in the set has at least one.) The science fiction was fun, even if a bit absurd(but that’s Doctor Who in a nutshell). And I loved the ending, with everything being wrapped up nicely, with a twinge of tragedy still there.
Fright Motif is my favourite of the set, which is good because it was the one I was most excited about. Foley just nailed not only The Doctor, but crafted brilliant characters in Artie, Zazie and Maurice. The mental health and grief aspects were just beautiful and I loved how understated Gemma Whelan’s performance here was. And Damian Lynch was just stunning.
Planet of the End is the weakest of the set, but is still a very solid 8 out of 10. Fred is developed so well over the course of the story, and Eccelston gives his best performance in this ep, but it over runs a bit and could lose a good 5-10 minutes and be better for it.
Can’t wait to get the vinyl for this one!

I couldn't get into Ravagers unfortunately but this volume was definitely more up my street. Girl Deconstructed and Planet of the End were my favourites (though Fright Motif was good too!) - I especially liked the low-stakes of Girl Deconstructed and the fact that the centre of the story was the father-daughter relationship - big epic stories are fun but I really like smaller stories like this too.

Girl,deconstructed -Lisa McMullin
good strong beginning to the set a more intimate kind of story. Chris sounds so youthful and optimistic as when he first appeared and he does give off the “am really enjoying this vibe” as much as David Tennant does in his stories. I am not seeing an arc in this and must say its kind of refreshing if it is so and no arc then this is probably how i would have preferred Stranded to have been.Individual stand alone stories and catching up i also see we will be having some Charley stories in near future and i look forward to those too.

Fright Motif - Tom Foley
Charismatic, hopeful, energetic, optimistic i need a bit more of that in my life.Chris just bounces along in his adventures whatever the stakes. I am not delving too deeply into the tales at moment bit like Artie waiting for my mojo to come back 😂

Planet Of the End-Timothy X Atack
This is and am only half way , through the strongest of the set.So fresh,a Universe with no Daleks. No Time Lords. No Time War and a universe ripe for the taking by any unscrupulous foes, there’s more guts as well to Chris’s performance and a sense of high stakes for him.Hopefully too, though i know he faces the Cyber threat in the next set we avoid trying to introduce the Daleks or anything related but am sure they are already concocting ways to do it but i feel it would be an error(IMO)

A little spot the difference in terms of cover credits, relevant to the present discussion. Can anyone guess what's missing on the second volume? Got to say my first Laugh on my reading of the older posts 😎

So much better than Ravagers!
Girl Deconstructed was thoroughly enjoyable, Fright Motif, not so much.
What took the cake was Planet of The End - I absolutely loved it.
Fred was fantastic - her periodic reports, when she gives him a haircut 😀 She and Nine had a delightful chemistry!

Well, I admit I tried Ravagers but did not get into it and so did not continue and will keep it for a later date. But I have started on Respond to all calls. Nice start. The idea behind girl deconstructed is fresh and new and it is a fun little romp, hiding some truly horrific aliens ( even if this was not malicious, what they do is the stuff of nightmares). Eccleston’s Performance is Great. I cannot find a lot of fault there. Fright motif was quite interesting, too. Interesting premise with the sound disharmony monster and the jazz musician and a great little chase around Paris. So this set was definitely worth it for these two stories alone. Curious about the next one. Maybe tonight.

Well, the last story did not quite have the zing that the other two had. It was a nice original idea, I give them that, however, it did drag a bit. Anyways, this was a nice fun set and definitely worth its money.
