Ties in with the vague "ideal jumping points or "new direction" comments Nick makes every now and then. Regards mark687 Fair point.
However, sticking with the 3rd Doctor, one thing that seems to have slipped below the DU's radar is Nick's comment in the news story:
"I’m particularly excited by what we’ll be doing with new First, Second and Third Doctor Adventures, aiming to make take them into brand new territory" ["make take" not a typo on my part, that is in the original news story]
New territory for Two is obvious enough - 6B. As for One, it is likely to mean the gap between Savages and War Machines that has not been explored before on audio. But what about new territory for Three? A new companion in the gap between seasons 7 and 8 or between season 10 and 11 is the most obvious new territory that springs to mind for me.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
So these ranges will start from Vol 1 for obvious reasons, this range will continue its sequence for obvious reasons. And these ranges will begin again from Vol 1 for no good reason at all except we feel like being 'new' and this range may or may not be renumbered from 1 you'll just have to wait and see...
Thoughts? To use an expression of my grandfather's rural generation - 'They don't know if they're on foot or horseback!' (You may not find much use for that one in the modern world, but it's still self-explanatory so have it as a gift to DU from the past. )

Well there were references in the companion chronicles that 3 had a companions between The Green Death and The Time Warrior called Lord Douglas perhaps it will be his Full Cast Debut?

I'm personally excited for the refresh. Especially the third doctor. I hope theres a 6 hour third doctor epic on the way (with a six parter surely). Same with the first doctor. I think Big Finish is at its best when its carving something new whilst the endless volumes of first doctor and third doctors usually have good stories and theres certainly a time and place for standalone stuff, they aren’t going anywhere its just nostalgia. Hopefully these new ranges can bring that element backs thats been present with the 8th and is even starting to be present with 9th and 10th with their big current series.
I do find it a bit odd people are finding this confusing though. Its just a rebrand making it so every year or two theres a new “season” for each doctor. Its just following the success of Doctors 8-10 and even the 4th doctor with the syndicate masterplan which was another success and replicating that so every doctor gets a premium range with arcs and like. Ive found it crystal clear all the way through tbh i am struggling seeing where people are getting hang ups from, is it just because we don’t know every single detail? Hopefully as its gets nearer more people will be getting excited

Please for the love of all that is good, no Charley with any Doctor. I'd rather listen to two hours of nails on a chalkboard. Yeah, I'm not interested in hearing more Charley with other Doctors. I had enough of her with Eight and Six and I really hated the way her story arc with Six ended.

A long long time ago I thought they might cast Tim Treloar as Joshua Douglas to allow a "narrator character" for the Third Doctor Adventures... they were said to have travelled together for something like ten years, but I'd be fine with a new companion as well! (But I also think you could do "the early adventures of Sarah Jane" and that would be relatively new territory for BF as well...)

Hopefully as its gets nearer more people will be getting excitedThat, and losing the Monthly Range has been very much like losing an old friend. I'm excited for the possibilities, too, but the transition reminds me a lot of the first time a favourite Doctor regenerates into a new incarnation. The very first time. There's a knee-jerk reaction and it's very jarring seeing them literally wandering around in their predecessor's clothes. After twenty years of certainty and knowing that there'll be a new Doctor Who every month, it feels so strange not to have something to fill that gap. It's the waiting. Waiting is always terribly difficult. It'll be interesting to see people's reactions to the ranges in full once they get going.

(You may not find much use for that one in the modern world, but it's still self-explanatory so have it as a gift to DU from the past. ) I sincerely doubt that any of the 'relaunch' ones will be numbered "Vol 1"; more likely that they'll all get unique subtitles a la "The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Ravagers". There may be numbers on the individual product pages (again a la Ravagers) so that the database can correctly index and sort by release order, but I don't buy that there will be any numbering in titles or on boxes except in very specific cases (like Forty Vol 1 and Forty Vol 2 for example). They've said that part of the impetus for the change was how daunting the Monthly Range was for newcomers ('release 268? Do I need to hear the first 267?'), so I just cannot see them completely undercutting that in just the second release of any given range.

Speculation: I think the Ainley Master (played by Jon Culshaw) Will make an appearance in Forty Vol 2 It’s certainly a possibility I suppose. Maybe it’ll even explain how he escaped Castrovalva?
