I think it makes sense that this would be the cover, both as the start of a new range and seeing as the main focus is going to be on the new Second Doctor. So I get it, it makes sense, and it does look really really good for what it is.
That being said, I do wish there was more going on here.

Not sure that’s the most appropriate response. Take feedback on board. That feedback may not necessarily be actioned, but don’t bury your head in the sand or reply as they’ve done, especially when it’s part of a controversial change from different ranges to box sets anyway.

They can say what their intention is (although none of the other new ranges have done the same, not even War Doctor Begins which is a very similar circumstance), but there’s better ways of doing it, I think. Just my thoughts, as per!

For what it's worth, I've just re-read the episode descriptions, and I don't think people need to be as fussed as they apparently are about the Daleks and Ice Warriors returning.
I believe the first story in the set has no returning villains, and the second takes place in a battle between the Daleks and I've Warriors. However, this is given a reason within the narrative - the description for the second story opens with "Plunged into the middle of a desparate mission by his new masters". This seems like this story will be the first of the Doctor's missions for the Time Lords. And given how much the Time Lords dislike the Daleks, it actually sort of makes sense.

I'm sitting here looking at my collection of audios from the early-00s... y'all, the covers we're getting now are several orders of magnitude better than what we used to get. Do some of you just... only buy new releases?
I think I've said this before, but I do think some of this criticism comes from just seeing the .jpg where, at first glance, the covers look like simple photoshops... so slightly more stylized characters would probably work better. Where you don't have to zoom in to see the brush strokes.
(Also they should use these paintings to explore new costumes, hairstyles etc.)

You can justify it or the story can explain it all they like. If you’re fatigued by returning elements, whether they be Daleks, Ice Warriors, etc. then it is what it is; you can’t escape that. Seems an odd thing to tell people whether they need to be fussed or not, particularly when you yourself was grateful for a release without any returning elements just yesterday. For me Big Finish’s track record with Ice Warriors is enough to make me groan when I see their use. They’re not terribly interesting and the writers don’t do anything to make them so. Doesn’t matter how much a story justifies their use.

It did the opposite for me; just reinforced my view on how uninspired the set sounds. Especially the Ice Warrior write up, which basically amounted to them coming up with the idea based on fleeting lines of dialogue. And the Dalek discussion just read like the most bizarre and disconnected way to write a story.
If you were optimistic about the set, then I’m sure it whets the appetite. If you were apprehensive to begin with, then the Vortex article does absolutely nothing to address that and surprisingly avoids any real mention of this being a new era for the Second Doctor; there should be more than enough to write a whole set and accompanying promotional material without returning monsters and trying to answer lines of dialogue.

"... basically amounted to them coming up with the idea based on fleeting lines of dialogue." This is what Doctor Who is. It's hearing a random line and going... "that could be a story," this isn't a bad thing.

I don’t just post pure negativity; I put the time in to explain my thoughts and say why I feel how I do. I do the same for anything I’m looking forward to; I don’t just gush and click “create post” because that’s equally pointless. Not really sure what the problem with that is, particularly when I’m discussing a promotional piece that, you know, should make you want to purchase the set.

TBH if Vortex is meant to be a marketing tool (and I think it probably is) then... well... I don't think it's a very good one. I kinda think we'd all be better off if they left the marketing to social media and used Vortex more for retrospective interviews--so they can actually talk about the stories without needing to play coy to avoid spoilers and whatnot. I mean, the BTS tracks we get after the audios are nice and all, bit don't really have the capacity to go into much depth. "... basically amounted to them coming up with the idea based on fleeting lines of dialogue." This is what Doctor Who is. It's hearing a random line and going... "that could be a story," this isn't a bad thing. Honestly all I can do is laugh when we try to predict how good a story or release will be prior to release. Feels like every time I do that, I wind up being wrong. I think it'll be great, and it's crap; I think it'll be crap, and I'll be floored. Not that Big Finish doesn't have a habit of underwhelming or unimaginative stories or anything... it's just that they also have a habit of knocking things out of the park and it's impossible to guess which'll be which.

Honestly it’s hard to know how successful the Boxset will be I mean it’s got Daleks, ice warriors and the brigadier so that would interest people
The only thing I can see getting in the way is the bland artwork which doesn’t showcase any of the returning elements which yeah could see casual viewers who are unsure of the release to perhaps dip out
