Ahahahaha I loved this one! Had me hooked almost immediately with that hilarious exchange between Benny and Brax.
The whole worldbuilding angle continues to I press--this very much feels like a coherent and consistent setting--and the Draconians are especially interesting. Do they show up more elsewhere? Or in the novels? I absolutely adored the Draconian Emperor (so glad they didn't hill him off!) and would love to see (or hear) him again.
Continuity remains confusing. What, exactly happened at Trenegas? And when? Seems weird for this backstory to materialize out of nowhere after listening to 10 consecutive audio stories. Never, ind all that guff with the Dark Flame. But it does make me interested in pursuing more Benny stories, so....
Other than the torture scene (no thanks) this was an almost-perfect story for me. Very engaging plot, fantastically snappy dialog, and an interesting setting that constantly leaves me wanting to know more. Easily a 5/5.

You're in luck, the next upcoming 3DA boxset has a story set to take place on Draconia with the Third Doctor and Jo. They first showed up on television in Frontier in Space dealing with an ongoing diplomatic incident, we see their funeral practices for departed Emperors in Paper Cuts (on audio with the Sixth Doctor), and if you can find something called Mindgame, Miles Richardson (who plays Brax) does a superb Draconian nobleman.

Ooh, that sounds fun!
I'm a big fan of lizard people.

Much as with The Dark Flame, I do have issues with this story as well.
I rather enjoyed it during my first listen through, but being in the middle of the story right now, I can't say I'm enjoying it so far. It's possibly the most brutal of the Benny stories I've ever listened to, and while I absolutely adore Just war for much the same reasons, the brutality isn't on the same level in my opinion. It's well acted, and the sound design is strong (which doesn't help the issues with it's brutality). I'm surprised that Big Finish would allow this particular story at this point in time, given that at this point Big Finish was beginning to reintegrate Benny back into the DW universe.
I will admit, the Draconians are always nice to visit (well, when they aren't behaving like this).
It's a good story, but I think it's a little too aggressive with pushing it's boundaries, but I've noticed that's a common issue with Trevor Baxendale (I'm looking at you Dark Flame/ Fear of the Dark)
I'm sure I'll have some more thoughts upon completing the story.

I just listened to this story a few weeks ago and yes, it is particularly brutal. There was a point when listening to this that it became almost unlistenable for its brutality. Especially with the xenophobia and misogyny thrown in. It is like they were trying to prove that this is NOT a Doctor Who story.
That being said, I do still think this is a very, very good.

Just listened to this one - fun! {Spoiler} Haven't heard Dark Flame yet but I will have to do so after this. Dark Flame (MR 042) is one of the weaker MRs, but I'd still recommend it (maybe wait for a sale or just listen to it for free, if it's still free, on Spotify) if only because Big Finish took the same core idea and had another go at it in Dark Universe (MR 260) and the latter is much, much better. It's a great example of how any idea can make for a great story -- it all depends on the execution.

Certainly nothing to write home about, but am I getting my money's worth? Absolutely!

Oh, yeah. It ain't bad, just... not really good, either. I probably wouldn't remember it at all if I hadn't listened to Dark Universe around the same time, so I could say, "Oh, this is just like The Dark Flame, only much better."
