Happy birthday to Colin! One of my first Doctors and what an incarnation to come in on. Thrilling from beginning to end with a performance that's never wavered, never found wanting. Here's to many more. "As spectrox night had fallen fast, He, through a stolen TARDIS passed A face, who bore, 'mid mud and sands, A candour that the Change demands, Excelsior!"

Considering how he was treated during his tenure as the Doctor, he has always made for a terrific brand ambassador.

Considering how he was treated during his tenure as the Doctor, he has always made for a terrific brand ambassador. Hey, he has won over a random German person who never had heard of Doctor Who, before studying in New Zealand, and who at first refused to watch "that cheap looking show". Now I am wearing the coat and there is an autograph of Colin's in my living room.
Not sure how many of the people who gave Colin grief are remembered or if they have slipped into obscurity.... but there is a picture of Colin hanging on a random German wall in the flat of a person who did not grow up with Doctor Who. Who just adores him on his own merits and not on account to some "nostalgia" (is there actually anyone feeling nostalgic for Colin's TV era?).
This is all you need to know about the people who gave Colin grief and about how awesome the man himself is.
(sorry, is it obvious there is a fan-girl speaking?)

There's actually more. In addition to parachuting with the Red Devils (has the Sixth Doctor ever parachuted? We need to remedy that...), he is also a supporter of the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, helping to raise funds for the charity. He became chairman of the organisation from 1997-2005. The Foundation still exists today. It's called the Lullaby Trust. He took a personal tragedy from his own life and, in return, dedicated a fair portion of it to ensuring that it never happened to anyone else. So, while the Sixth Doctor saved lives throughout space and time, Colin was doing precisely the same thing in our world. A candle to light the dark. That's quite wondrous, really.

Here's hoping for many more to come! Happy Birthday Colin! You know, I do not like the all black look. He’s just SO VIBRANT a character he deserves to be a riot of colours (or at least shades of blue).

Hello again
Many happy returns Colin Baker. As a young teenage fan, I really didn't like much of Colin Baker's run on tv. I really disliked the Sawardian grimness of Season 22 and found the Trial season, week upon week of viewing with weary resignation that he deserved so much better. I liked his Doctor immensely and Peri right from the word go challenged this Doctor's excesses. They made a good team. Watching the tv stories as an adult some thirty years later I found a more enjoyable experience.
I was delighted when he got the chance to reprise the role on audio. When the main range 1-50 were reduced in price for the fiftieth anniversary I had an absolute ball. It was Saturday evening again and thepictures were somuch better on audio. I started off with The Holy Terrorand made the mistake oflistening to it in the dark. Episode 4 was chilling. Then it was Evelyn and Sixie and I loved every minute, another companion who stood no nonsense from the brash and brusque Doctor and who knocked a few awkward corners off him. I also loved the run of Charley Pollard stories. He finally had truly great stories to show what a great Doctor he is.
All the Eighties Doctors benefitted hugely from their audio adventures but for me Sixie's audio adventures are my favourites. It was only natural that when the Paul Spragg Short Trip opportunity began I would send in a Sixie story every year. Two of which can be found in the Divergent Wordsmith's ReCollections anthology.
I really do hope we see him on tv in some form for the Sixtieth.
