Saw the first episode, and - granting it's widely said that the series improved - what a crock of ****. Firstly, even if the actors were speaking clearly, it would still be almost totally incomprehensible. God help viewers who don't recognise the names and concepts (and everybody familiar with the books won't recognise the characters). Secondly, they've clearly spent a lot of money on it, so why is it Discworld In Name Only? None of the characters act like they do in the books, and the city's not even located amongst cabbage fields but a desert. Why are goblins the same height as everybody else? WHY ARE DWARFS TALL?!! If they wanted a generic fantasy series, why not make one up? It's clearly a very cynical project, because the opening credits cite it as based on characters by 'Sir Terry Pratchett'. How many tv adaptations of novels cite the writers' honorific? It's always PG Wodehouse, VS Naipaul and Kingsley Amis, never Sir Pelham or Sir Vidiadhur or even Sir Kingsley. Thirdly, some odd acting. Anna Chancellor seems to have forgotten how to do it; Richard Dormer is either a genius or deeply unwell; Lara Rossi is actually quite good, but she appears to be in a different program altogether. So, over in another thread - notthebigfinishforum.freeforums.net/post/300337/thread
