I'm calling it now: she's gonna steal Bessie. "borrow" I think is the right term....

Story synopsis sound great. I’m glad the Doctor isn’t in the whole set and the serialised sounding approach lends itself to him appearing at the end and wondering what’s gone on! I hope Treloar guesting in another range will allow him to up his game. I think he’s become quite lazy in the last couple of 3DA sets, playing it as a Jon Pertwee soundalike, but there's not really a performance in there. The way he’s performing the lines is neither what Jon would have done as the Doctor, or even just the Third Doctor as a fictional character. I agree with someone I saw in (I think) the comments on BF's YT channel. He's making the role more his own. Being the exact same is fine, but the energy is different when you can make the character your own, like what you get with the David Bradley First Doctor. He's slowly becoming more comfortable with the character, merging himself. His voice is so much less tense, he's able to do so much more with his voice now, which he couldn't when he was trying to perfectly mimic OG 3. It's a different feel to be sure, but it's not a bad thing, it's just different.

Confirming what most of us already guessed but I have to say, the story details do sound intriguing. And I like the fact they’re doing more with Dr Liz Shaw as a character. Me too! I personally don't really care for 3's first season and think that Liz is a very bland character during her stint on screen, but the little of Liz I've heard has made me really like her, so I'm definitely all here for her getting a lot more stories!

Much as am all for this set and really looking forward to it i still think the BEST of River story is COLONY where there was no homage to the past just a great standalone story for River and her skills and would welcome absolutely more of her in her almost detective persona

Hell yeah. River is so much fun doing her own thing, rather than being shackled to the Doctors' continuities. I think in this range the Doctor is best just used sparingly, like a cameo, rather than anything big. Kinda like how River Song was used in Doom Coalition(?).

Yeah Colony Of Strangers i think is her best story and what an awesome sidekick she has in it truly Memorable

So, predictions on the best story of the set? I legit think the first story will be! Sounds creepy and character-focused!

9.4 seems pretty promising, given how touchy the 3rd Doctor can be about his things.

Finished the first story. I deliberately kept my expectations low. We got some really great River stories from BF, but we also got a few that were not as great, and especially her past UNIT stories were... not so good. But after the first story, I am surprised how well this works. I also have to note that River has been toned down a bit. In the past, some of her performances have been deliberately over the top, but I am happy to say, this is subdued here. I feel right at home with the UNIT family, the grumpy Brigadier, and Liz is performed very well indeed. Liz also has great chemistry with River and this is what, for me at least, elevates the story. The story itself.... well, we get sinister goings on with a demonic creature in a rural village with a nasty noble landowner doing his best to be an a$$. Does this sound familiar? At least the setting gives me a bit of a deja vu. Maybe it would not have been THAT blatantly obvious if I had not listened to Devil's hoofprints a couple of days ago. Still, the characters are well written, I especially liked the old lady archeologist digging for treasures at an old battleground, getting in trouble with the landowner. The story pretty much plays out like these stories always play out, and I am sorry to say, but there was no surprise in store for me. I still enjoyed the story, but that had more to do with the performance and the chemistry between the leads than a surprising and original plot. Yes, I understand this is supposed to be River planted into some typical 3rd Doctor settings.... but I really hope they did this first story to lure us all into a false sense of security and really take off with the next stories, because otherwise it will be a bit old. I also started with the second story (just paused to have some leftover dinner) and my impression of the first 10 minutes is
{Spoiler} so this is the Stepfort Wives meet the Ashenden Torchwood release, that also was out this month? I REALLY hope they find an original exciting new resolution to this story, because otherwise, I seriously doubt the sanity of the person who made the BF release schedule for this month. Or maybe they think they are clever and just published a box set of River stories that riffs off all the other releases they had this month? Let us see, what else was published in October that might fit in here....
But I hold back any more criticism until I heard the rest of the stories. Maybe I am just in a critical mood again....

Oh no. I had to interrupt the listening of the second story. Totally ripped me out of it. BF was doing so well with their German voice actors. Now we are back to very awful fake German accents, actors who have never spoken a word of German in their lives, I assume an author who used an outdated version of Google translate to make up weird kind of quasi German-ish language that I as a native speaker have a hard time to understand. Ever heard the word grammar? Shame on you. BF has proven they can do much better. This is VERY disappointing.
EDIT: Why the hell would you bother including Germans into you story at all if you cannot make an effort? Well... at least they did not make up a German version of Malebolgia. Thank god for small mercies.
