Finished the second half of this set. Third story- well, I am all for a crazy scientist plot set at a university, and I usually like these type of stories. But I have to admit, this one lacked something. It just came across as pretty generic. I am sad to say that not a single thing did really surprise me. And the last story- this one was again better. The Doctor fits in harmonically and his bickering with River was refreshing. For me, this could even have been extended a bit. The 3rd Doctor with this grumpy style counterbalances perfectly with River's flirtation attempts. So yeah, this was quite fun. As for the story itself, well, again.... hands up if you were surprised by any of the plot elements? Nah, me neither. It is serviceable, and it acts as a sufficient setting to present some great performances. We get dramatic and exciting bits and scary Gallifreyan technology and we meet again with an old acquaintance, which was nice. But the ending? Pretty much exactly what I expected.
So in conclusion. The first story was great, the second one atrocious, the third generic, the fourth had some fun bits. Overall, we get some fantastic performances. This is exactly what I wanted to hear, and they deliver. I was also surprised how organically River fits into this era and the UNIT characters. Not the best River release, but serviceable and apart from the second story which I barely could finish, I enjoyed myself.

Oh man he is good that’s instant recognition..he is the man if they have to include him...thanks for that Marshall Tankersley is pretty good as 3rd Doctor in it. Its a fun fan made audio drama even if their Doctor is a bit generic. Caroline.

You’re deadnaming Caroline OK, apologies I didn't know. & you could have maybe been a bit clearer on your post rather than just posting a first name (I had to google to find out).

Yes, I'm aware the Christmas Truce has featured in some stories, my point was more that it's such an obviously good moment to work into a Doctor Who story that it's absence for so many decades in pretty conspicuous. Especially considering how relatively easy it would be to film (WWI sets and costumes, like Victorian stuff, being pretty commonplace).
It's just an odd quirk of the show. Like the fact that so many stories about a time traveler tended to really play with classic time travel tropes/paradoxes until the Moffat era.

I seem to be the odd one out in that I LOVED this set. I loved the dynamic between Liz and River. In fact, I think it's up there with my favorite sets in this range. I thought all the stories had something in them that I enjoyed and were a bit fun. And the lesson in these seems to be that people are never quite what they seem to be.
And regarding the last few minutes, I was thoroughly surprised. I thought it was a lovely and appropriate touch for stories set in this era.

Regarding those last few minutes, my thought was "that's a surprise, but it makes perfect sense." Overall I enjoyed the set. Just finished the last story today. All the interactions between River and Liz and the Brigadier just were loads of fun. I wouldn't mind hearing more of River's adventures with them. Throw in Benton next time.

Bit late to the part but I’m working my way through my River backlog. I enjoyed this box set a lot. I would like to hear more from Liz and River as they work well together. Each story felt like it belonged to this period of the show. I liked the ending of the final story but each story had some good stuff.

Yeah I thought River and Liz were a dream team and I would have commissioned a whole series of boxsets with them together if I’d been in charge of things!
