So giving this a go. I don’t know why I was so apathetic towards this release initially, I have very strong childhood memories of Series 3’s finale (more so than Series 2 oddly, despite that actually being my first series), but marketing for this just didn’t grab me. Happily the first episode has proven me completely wrong.
The Last Diner was good, simple character drama. I liked Martha’s little tale of the Doctor and the asteroid, the Toclafane’s brief presence recaptures their menace well and the characters in this feel believable. Excellent stuff.

Happily the first episode has proven me completely wrong. We’re of the same era and I’m exactly the same. I often think about why Martha is my companion and I feel as though series 3 and 4 is my Doctor Who, despite starting with and getting hooked by Tooth and Claw. And I think it’s because of Rose and her belonging to the previous era. Because you’re missing those first few adventures of her and the Doctor you lose that association somewhat. It doesn’t necessarily affect the quality of the episodes, but I think it does affect your association and therefore your memories. It’s why I’ve got a strong affection for the later Tennant era than the first series, despite starting with that and getting hooked by it. Just my thoughts anyway!

Wot, no poll? I just popped in to give Diner a solid 4/5.

Finished the set and I’m quite pleased with it. Silver Medal had a nice take on a different system of survival and Martha using her story to make a point is a nice contrast to first story’s more hopeful take. Deceived had good twists and the competing agents of the Master are a fun dynamic and I like how they linked this all back to Last of the Time Lords. {Spoiler} I especially liked how Francine was unaware of her spy status. It means every criticism of the Doctor she made wasn’t some grand Master propaganda, but just her honest views. Which feels very true to the character. I honestly wouldn’t mind more of this series (and they’ve definitely left potential space for more). It does what I’ve been wanting them to do more with recent Tenth Doctor era stuff, actually take his era and build on it rather than throw in stuff from other eras.

Finished listening to this today, rotating each story with those in a Torchwood set and some other things.
One strange thing to my ears was Julie Graham's voice when I first heard it reminded me a lot of Alex Kingston's. So, until I looked at the cast listing I was thinking there was a version of River Song appearing.
I was quite confused by Francine appearing and immediately suspicious, but had no good feeling for what was actually going on until they revealed it. She was right in character with how I remembered her.
Overall it was a good slice out of Martha's voyages. I'll be onboard for a subsequent volume.

Nick said on the podcast around two months ago that Freema took some persuading to do the BF stories she did and has shown no interest in doing more. It sounds like we shouldn't hold our breath for more.

There is a fourth story that’s been scripted and either partially or fully recorded, so there is something that will hopefully see the light of day, even if it’s not the start or something frequent.
