Y'all might make fun of me for this, self-professed Pertwee fanboy that I am, but I just don't remember him with a working TARDIS. Like, at all. So whenever I come across one of these stories where's he's unfettered, I can't help but raise on eyebrow. To my mind's eye, the 3rd Doctor is always and forever at UNIT, with the Brigadier, Jo and Sarah.
Also, cripes, this story is downright horrifying. If aliens have advertising, xenocide is an ethical imperative. This is the real Fermi Paradox, ya' know: if intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe, how can they permit human advertising to exist? Nothing in creation is more abhorrent. I think the Doctor absolutely has the right of it here: they must be killed on sight.
And more seriously, and let's be honest, the Doctor's desperate efforts to erase invasive advertising is very likely the single most relatable thing they've ever done.
That said, the "anti-virus software" conclusion was a bit much.
Well, what'd y'all think?
