There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I’d have given this whole series a 5 if it had just avoided that first episode or done it some other way. It was enjoyable and not a bad piece of writing but it felt like a too-obvious way of having the audience to get to know the characters again. And the whole “divide the crew to defeat them and then have them realise that they need each other” was done quite a lot in the original show.

It reminded me of the first BF Sapphire and Steel story, The Passenger - it was basically a mash-up of familiar moments from the television show, but provided a strong basis for the 'new' version. That's the way I viewed Fractured. Good that we all appreciate different things!

You know, now that you mention it, I actually do rather like Attack of the Cybermen ...

The series was good but Cavan Scott and Mark Wright belong to the "clever-Avon-stupid-Blake" subset of B7 fans and it comes across a bit in the 2 episodes they wrote. The low opinion they have of Blake comes across in their Liberator Chronicle, 6.3 Blake's Story, as well.
In fairness I should add that IMHO anything they have written for series C has been top-notch

Wot, no Warship? Or is it because that story is still available on CD... first released 2013... while the rest are download only?

I agree that it feels like a re-tread and as such is predictable, but that felt like a good thing. Easy listening and you don't need to concentrate that much as you can see where it is headed. It worked well as shutupbanks says, in reintroducing the full cast (though it does feel like a convenient way of stitching together separate recording days together without too much shared scenes). The main thing for me was that it succeeded in feeling authentic, and easy to visualise as if it was a televised episode. It ensured I progressed to revisiting a couple more soon afterwards.

Same here. A good spring board for BF's subsequent take on the series, and an enjoyable story in its own right, I think.

So they basically took the Classic Adventures that were sold as individual releases back in 2014 and made them into two box sets? Very confusing. I had to check to make sure that, yes, I already bought these years ago. Chakoteya, Warship was always marketed separately. The Classic Series 1 starts with release 1.1 Fractures and goes through to 1.6 Caged and the series started in January 2014. Warship was released separately a full year earlier.

This is brilliant! A pulp reworking of the first few episodes of the classic series 1, or for those who have read it, Terry Nations original novelisation, heavily condensed pulp fiction style. A seven post thread. The Way Backwards for Big Finish?

I read a few of Richard Allen’s novels back in the day and this is just wonderful.

I did not know who Richard Allen was until researching the post but it fits well, of a sample I read online this morning. I remember my Dad telling me an anecdote about how, as an off-duty policeman back in '71 there was a gang of Suedeheads trying to barge into the old Bainbridges Dep't store in Newcastles Bigg Market. One of them tried to elbow him aside as he was holding my baby brother in one arm (hoping to unbalance him), so he grabbed the lad by the collar lapels of his crombie coat and then held the gang off by himself at the entrance until security came to keep them out, all the while keeping hold of my toddler brother. Talk about dealing with it 'single handed' indeed. He used to enjoy that kind of thing back in the day, I believe...
