A Perfect Recreation of The 2005 Era, Eccleston is much more comfortable and recognizable as The 9th Doctor here than in Ravegers Great guest cast really makes me think of a lost episode from Series 1. Ending was both happy and sad at the same time

Absolutely loved this story. Excellent script from a unique idea, Eccleston's on his A-game, the rest of the cast are superb, the sound design and music is brilliant throughout, and it's genuinely difficult to think of an aspect that I disliked. Not as universe-shattering as some recent stories from BF, and personally I think that's a good thing. What a start to the boxset. 10/10.

Excellent all round but I loved that little extra bit of story-line/character development/connection for the Detective in particular.

I'm going to say it (and of course, other opinions are preferable), but how wonderful it is to hear a BF 9th Doctor audio that isn't s**t! I was more invested in the characters and their situation in the pre-credits sequence to Girl Deconstructed than I was during the whole of Ravagers.
The Doctor has instant rapport with DC Jana Lee nicely played by Pearl Appleby, and their dialogue and timing is terrific. Of course, I wanted her to become a traveling companion, which is a good sign of her appeal. Christopher Eccleston is just as engaged and delightful to listen to as he was in his audio debut, only this time he has wit and clarity on his side; any technobabble is instantly slapped down by PC Lee ("I beg your what now?"). There's genuine emotion too ("I'm sorry I broke your elephant" has never sounded so poignant, and the Ninth Doctor has rarely sounded so boisterous.
A true joy, then. The adolescent-draining Serapheem (?) are an interesting alien species, accidentally dangerous, and I like the way their story is told in, forgive me, timey-wimey fashion. Fast-paced but with real heart, I thoroughly enjoyed this - rather in the way the 3DAs are so faithful to their era it brings a nostalgic tear to the eye, this has the same effect. Roll on Fright Motif!

Top marks from me for this one. It’s a massive step up from Ravagers. And it’s the perfect introduction to Nine on audio, frankly.
It’s a lovely, low key story with a timey wimey slant that doesn’t get bogged down in technobabble and doesn’t make you wonder what’s happening. The guest cast are great and well developed in just 48 minutes. Perhaps most importantly is that Girl Deconstructed is written to the strengths of Eccleston’s Doctor. The man himself was a real tour de force in Ravagers, but I rarely felt he was actually playing his Doctor. There’s the occasional scene in Girl Deconstructed where he’s missing his northern twang, but at no point do you think this isn’t the Ninth Doctor.
Lovely sound design and music too; it’s got that Murray Gold inspiration and is noticeable without being overwhelming or dominating.

Top marks for this one, this does feel closer in tone to his tv era & a perfect story for the running time. A superb cast of characters all well written & acted, a really intriguing mystery & a story I can see myself returning to.

Wouldn't these be 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 instead, given that this is the second boxset?
Anyway, I just finished this one and I really liked it. It's definitely a pretty in unambitious, "popcorn" story, but it had great energy and some fun banter which made for a relaxing listen. I particular liked the dynamic between the Doctor and his sort-of-but-not-really companion here. If Ravagers were an attempt to mimic Moffat-style storytelling, this one feels much more like an emulation of RTD's style, which is probably a more appropriate fit for this Doctor.
Eccleston sure seems to be enjoying himself with the script, and I suspect this is the "lighter" kind of story he was so keen on doing in the first place. I don't mind it so much here, but I do hope this doesn't become the norm for the 9DAs (as it did in the early 10DAs): Doctors aren't really Doctors without their sharp edges, ya' know?

I wasn't keen on NuWHo when it started, but CE is starting to grow on me. MASSIVE science-common sense plot hole that has to be ignored, but hey ho, what's new? Just how many of Marnie's molecules did they all breath in with all that chat in her bedroom?

Loved, loved, loved this. The characters were well-realized (impressive given the running time), the premise was intriguing, and Eccleston once again delivered an exemplary performance. The story itself is probably a solid 8/10 in the grand scheme but given that the bar was lowered to the Earth's core by the previous entry (for me, anyway), I'm already looking forward to listening to this one again. More like this, please!

Loved that. While I did enjoy Ravagers, this did feel like a step up. Eccleston feels even more at home and you could easily think that this was a lost episode from Series 1. I really enjoyed his interactions with Jana Lee. Would actually love for them to meet again in a future story.

I loved Girl, Deconstructed. Lisa McMullin's script has such a distinctive take on TV mystery drama conventions, whilst capturing the spirit of Series 1. And isn't Christopher Eccleston just fantastic, along with the entire guest cast! Not to mention this funny little moment... where they, including the Doctor, sing Happy Birthday near the end.

I think BF made a mistake having Ravagers opening the 9DAs, THIS story would be perfect for a reintroduction for The Doctor. A story that feels very much like it could have come on TV but with the lost Marnie's state not requiring some CGI. Where Ravagers was a bit...smart arsed to be honest, this was classic "There's people in trouble and The Doctor is here to help" material. It's not generic though- it's very much a strong take on something like Fear Her where the "monster" isn't what we think it is. And very original that the Seraphine start to "meld" with Marnie. Leads to some disquieting moments.
Forbes Masson as the dad was an odd character, he seemed to be disassociated with the emotional core of the story. What should have been a stoic, strong, silent type became almost nonplussed at times. I'd say he's the only weak link. I didn't think he sold his worries. And that brings me no joy as I really like Forbes (anyone remember his double act with Alan Cumming? They had an act called "Victor and Barry" and then got their own sitcom The High Life (with the antagonist Shona Spurtle played by BF's Rani Siobhbhan Redmond).
ALl in all an excellent story and frankly, the real Ninth Doctor debut at BF. Ravagers brought back Eccleston...this brought back The Ninth Doctor.

Look, if Big Finish organized their releases consistently, they wouldn't be Big Finish. That scene threw me down a rabbit hole... growing up I'd always heard that the song was under active copyright and any public or commercial usage required licensing... hence why it seldom shows up in television of film. But apparently it was always public domain--some random company had been claiming copyright ownership falsely since the 1940s, and using that claim to effectively extort money. Wild stuff.
