Not sure if this is appropriate but as we often have threads created when someone either Who related or just someone in the public eye we like passes away maybe have a dedicated thread? I raise this after just hearing from a friend about the sad passing of Sean Lock from f**king cancer.

Gutted to hear about Sean, but I wouldn't want an RIP thread. I'd have to go in and look to see any new announcements. Perhaps an "in Memorium" section of teh forum, but each death still gets its own thread (which each death deserves)

It’s a huge shock, especially after Paul Ritter passed earlier this year.

15 Storeys High was a genius sitcom and I loved him on QI. Sad news.

Blimey, and at only 58? How unfortunate. Cancer really is a real b*****d of an affliction, isn’t it? I long for the day when it can be treated as easily as say a simply jab. Hopefully, it’ll be within our lifetimes.

A RIP thread is actually not that bad an idea. Another forum I'm on has a "Deaths of Cultural Significance" thread, which basically serves the same purpose as what johnhurtdoctor is proposing. It just depends on whether people will use such a thread or will continue to start individual threads for each death. I'm willing, for one, to see what develops with respect to the use of such a thread.

Then why comment? & as for your other comment, I guess you're trying to make some kind of point... There are lots of things on these forums I don't know about but don't feel the need to comment. Please stop trying to derail the thread.

Sean Lock was someone who continuously made me laugh, just an absolute weirdo with a dry wit. Tragic that we've lost him in his fifties. God.

In regards to an all encompassing thread for memorials, I think it works much better than different threads, so like Ela I think we can watch how it plays out.
As to the passing of Sean Lock, damn. As someone who is very much with his roots of the UK, this one hit hard. 8 out of 10 cats will be missing that special spark I think without him. A true talent that got me through the loss of my Stepfather to cancer, so the news has hit hard.

Hello again
Culturally significant, particularly to parents of young children is the loss of Jill Murphy, children’s author best known for The Worst Witch series.
Parents of young children will know her for her picture books about The Large Family, a family of elephants and the wonderful The Last Noo-noo a very helpful book in helping little ones stop using a dummy or pacifier.
I read this one a lot, when our girls were small. There was in Hayle, Cornwall a Noo-noo ‘tree’ art installation where parents and toddlers had ceremoniously tied their dummy to the tree as a symbol of growing up!
The Worst Witch series predates Harry Potter and is great fun. As a nascent children’s writer, I really appreciate her work and contribution to children’s literature.
