RIP Michael Nesmith - sitcom star, singer, executive producer of the film Repo-Man, etc Just saw/heard Mike Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz perform at the end of October. Such a wonderful heartfelt performance. I grew up in the 80s with reruns of the Monkees tv show. Always looked forward to watching after school. R.I.P. Mr. Nesmith

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I stopped being a fan many years ago, but it’s a sad farewell to Anne Rice today.

I stopped being a fan many years ago, but it’s a sad farewell to Anne Rice today. Why this bit? Because while I no longer enjoy her books nor her writing, she had a big influence on the sorts of books I read for several years, and I really did love the early volumes of The Vampire Chronicles for a long time.

We're coming up on an anniversary tomorrow.
This programme will be broadcast 1415h tomorrow, and available on Sounds after 1500 or so...
Let us remember all those who have no grave but the sea, and their families who have no place to go to mourn them.

Put "jethro camborne wednesday" into your fave search engine and discover why Cornwall has turned out for his funeral in Truro at noon today. (Spotted the hearse and cortege on the A30 earlier.)

RIP Peter Bogdanovich
Nno. Not today. Just waxed lyrical about Last Picture Show on my last vid. Peter was evergreen, not 82.
Peter was a MAJOR part of the Easy Riders-Raging Bulls generation. Whats Up Doc may be my fave screwball comedy since the 40s. Absolutely wonderful. That and Paper Moon showed he was about the only director who knew how to consistently use Ryan O'Neal. Yet his hidden 70s gems like Nickelodeon and Saint Jack are well worth anyone's time.
After the murder of his partner Dorothy Van Statten, of Playboy fame, he was never quite the same. Became a bit of a director for hire even if some films were successes like Mask, with Cher and Eric Stoltz. Sad to see him end up in TV movies in the 90s. Peter directing To Sir With Love 2? WTF? Where Sidney Poitier leaves London (Lulu comes back to chant the theme tune at him at his leaving bash) and move to LA. Cartoony crime LA. Just a shit Dangerous Minds knock off and FAR too weak for men of Sidney or Peters talents.
Still, a bit of a happier 2000s. Peter became an actor once more (you probably remember him as Dr. Melphis therapist in The Sopranos) and made a decent film that felt like one of his in The Cats Meow. Co-starred in Orson Welles famous incomplete Other Side Of The Wind and was a major force in its completion by Netflix in 2017. Peters first film (co-starred, wrote and directed) has just been restored, Targets, and the BFI are releasing a bluray this summer. The story behind the scenes is as fascinating as the movie...and its a damn cool movie.
Last film, that he made at 80, was a documentary about Buster Keaton. Fitting for a man who did not like or love cinema - he LIVED it.
