I think it would be a nice idea and it may increase Doctor Who fandom in Japan.

Sure, why not. Not sure if anyone is really calling for it but it would be interesting to see someone take a crack at it.

It’s quite a broad question there. Whilst I wouldn’t consider myself a fan of manga or anime, I know that there’s so many different approaches to it for different audiences with different art styles and genres.
I think my answer would be very much dependent on being given different samples of what a Doctor Who manga or anime could be. At which point that’s less “should there be” and more “would you like more”!
Interestingly Star Wars is delving into both in the coming weeks, with a High Republic manga and the Visions anime show.

I would say yes as long as there is an approval process in place Manga and anime can vary a lot - most is fine, some is very good but .. some creators and editors can be a bit...extreme and need to be kept in line (or kept away)

Manga/Anime, perhaps the only storytelling-format that is recieved with active hostility rather than indifference or enthusiasim.
I don't think this would be a good idea.

Manga/Anime, perhaps the only storytelling-format that is recieved with active hostility rather than indifference or enthusiasim. I don't think this would be a good idea. Funny you mention that, actually. There's been a massive cultural shift in the West over the past decade towards Japanese anime and manga. Huge. It's now considered a practically mainstream... set of mediums? Genres? Style. Streaming and the public accessibility of the series (without having to pay hundreds for a two-disc boxset or single video cassette) has played a strong part in that. Talking practically, maybe not a dedicated series yet, but as time rolls on, it's going to be inevitable we see more stories -- here and there -- influenced from that style, passively or actively. It's kind of exciting to think of the possibilities. There are a few influences that have quietly made their mark already. Chalk me up as part of the group interested in seeing where it could go. Manga would probably be more likely than an anime, but I could go for either. There was a short-run manhua of Doctor Who in Korea. They published in 1984, featuring the Fourth Doctor and a new companion called Joy. You can read more about it here.

It's now considered a practically mainstream Is it? There's very little of it on tv, not generally reviewed even in comics-related things so far as I can see. I shouldn't think the entire genre gets even a fraction of the attention of, say, Big Finish - certainly not in the mainstream media.

I shouldn't think the entire genre gets even a fraction of the attention of, say, Big Finish - certainly not in the mainstream media. Oh, it definitely does. It's one of those deceptive things where it's not really noticable until you're actively looking for it. The director of the recent Disney film, Luca, for instance, was inspired significantly by Studio Ghibli and the work of Hayo Miyazaki. That style and storytelling method ended up incorporated in how they developed it. On television... You're more likely to find anime on dedicated family channels and the modern equivalent of the Saturday morning matinee. Outside of that, the bulk of it is accessible from websites like Crunchyroll and Funimation or, occassionally, something like Netflix. Manga can be found in a local library, bookshops or online on similar platforms for reading. From what I know of trends -- and that might be a bit out-of-date -- you're more likely to find someone who watches anime than reads manga. For much the same reason you're more likely to find someone whose watched a superhero series, rather than read it. As a genre... Anime in the 1980s, when it started getting recognised in the West, was very much cyberpunk, space opera, future dystopia stories, etc. With memories of Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion thrown in for good measure. Since then, there's been a steady shift in the focus of what constitutes anime and manga in the West. Those roots are still there, but there's a much broader palette of stories to choose from now. The Studio Ghibli films, for instance, can range from post-apocalyptic eco-thrillers with kingdoms at stake to a coming-of-age film about a young girl learning to run a delivery service. Some is heavily violent, others are startlingly benign. There's such a breadth of experiences to tap into now that -- among younger people, especially -- it's difficult to find people who don't have it as a frame of reference for their pop culture. Even if it's, like, cursory and in passing. I think it might have been part of a similar cultural boom that's been happening for the past while. I've one friend who watches Spanish soap operas, another Brazillian sci-fi, a family member who watched the German-made Dark, I tend to watch Korean dramas... None of that happened until we got streaming services.

I like it when Manga/Anime characters are shown to have black eyes and are showing their teeth when angry. Imagine seeing Tegan or Donna like that.

I would be surprised if there is never an official doctor who Manga or something in that regard. As mentioned, its a mainstream industry with mainstream adaptations happening all the time as well as netflix producing shows in that style and distributing shows as well. I mean theres been official star wars manga and star trek so why not doccy who?
