You know, McCoy only ever got one new BF companion (three if you count Klein) and Davison only recently got Marc Erimem was nearly 200 releases ago!

So she’s a marine biologist and works on an oil rig....
Right, what do you reckon? Some original monster or are we due a return of the Sea Devils or the Seaweed Creature?

I can't resist a Sixth Doctor audio. Pile on the companions, I say!

I wonder if 6 would get a long term male companion in the future Both 6 & 8 haven’t had many long term male companions in audios Crizz being an exception I suppose

(Wait, no, Jamie's in four, I forgot about Night's Black Agents)

I'll definitely reserve judgment until, you know, seeing her in action, but just on the face of it I'm disappointed to see them continue to adhere to the typical companion formula. Don't we have enough conventionally attractive young human women opposite the Doctor? It's just a boring, safe choice. Especially in audio when there's so much more freedom to be had without the limitations of the BBC costuming budget.

Don't we have enough conventionally attractive young human women opposite the Doctor? Yes, it's time for some ugly men! Please contact my agent. As you mention, it's audio, so it doesn't matter what the companion looks like but I think it's great they've got a wheelchair-using actor to pley a wheelchair-using character.

Maybe, but Ruth Madeley is a wheelchair user so if this is reflected in her character then it is a bit different to the typical companion formula. It would be progressive to have a disabled companion.

The idea of a disabled companion opens up a whole other can of worms I somewhat doubt they'll get into, vis-a-via the ethics of "healing" disability--which is and AFAIK always has been a bit of a hot-button issue within the community. The Doctor theoretically has access to *literally* the most advanced health care in the universe, so theoretically this would be a much more practical concern.
There's also the question of whether or not the TARDIS is wheelchair-accessible... it certainly does not seem to be. And the vast and overwhelming majority of historical settings are not going to be friendly.
I'm also unconvinced that this is really a "progressive milestone" in any real sense. When we talk about representation, it's usually about identity--which is, broadly speaking, the aspects of our characters that we cannot change. Physical disability is... typically not that. I dunno. I'm disabled myself and I don't really see this as very progressive in any but the most superficial way. I'd probably feel differently if this was the TV show, but as it stands....
But who knows, maybe the actual stories will surprise me and I won't have to go on (another) long screed about Big Finish using performatively progressive casting to paper over deeply regressive scripts.

Speaking as a disabled person in media, I get the frustration. I want things to change as well. Here's the thing: Ruth Madeley is very, and I mean very, outspoken on disabled issues if you follow her or look her up. Plus she runs in circles with people like RTD and Jack Thorne - If she's involved, then I can't see BF giving her breadcrumbs and her just playing along. Not nowadays, not her style.
I also cannot imagine her saying yes to any sort of 'magic healing' scene or so-called 'comedy' bits about not being able to go up stairs or needing to constantly be picked up. I just don't see it.

That does sound promising, and I wish I could share your optimism, but we've seen progressive casting paired with regressive writing before... but I'm inclined to leave it alone for now. I'm sure we'll have much more to say--delightfully grounded conversations--once we have some stories to dig into. But, yeah, definitely several tightropes to walk here.
