While I think it's cool that Sixie's getting another companion, I'm mainly glad because we're getting one lost story and two box sets with Sixie and Mel next year. After years without any new episodes for this duo, the last one being The Last Adventure in 2015, it just makes me happy.

Hmm I sense a handy jumping on point for the post-MR era, as the other two storylines Sixie’s got on the go (Constance & Flip, Post-Trial Peri) are both continuations of stuff that started in the MR. Nice that Mel’s time with Sixie is getting an expansion, as that’s been one of the rarer combinations.

As usual with BF's breathless announcements, I have no idea who this is But it's always exciting to get a new regular TARDIS team member, so I'm excited to see what she brings to the table!

Yeah, Mel was mostly in Seven's stories with Ace from 2016 to 2018. Scary how time flies.

Another new companion? Can BF just bring back Flip please. Sadly, Lisa Greenwood has been unable to work for a few months now, due to long covid which has affected her quite badly.

Yeah, I'm sure BF wants Lisa back asap, as much as we all do - but it might be some time. As for the topic at hand, more Six and Mel is great and overdue! And a new second companion for them is a happy surprise. (I've yet to see Years and Years, so I'm unfamiliar with Ruth Madeley - another reason to check that out soon!)

What sort of compromising photos of Briggs does Colin have that he keeps getting new companions?

I am also happy that Sixie gets some reinforcements. Colin is always good value, so of course I am up for this.

I love the audio companions he's got, Evelyn is still a favorite. Was just struck by the fact that he's had so many more audio companions than his counterparts (with the exception of McGann).

Hello again
Having seen Years and Years, I can confirm that Ruth Madeley is a great actor and I am delighted that she has joined Colin Baker's Doctor. I also enjoyed her appearance in The Watch. She played her character in Years and Years with such verve and authenticity. I heartily recommend Years and Years, though it is not an easy watch.
Also very pleased that Bonnie Langford has some more adventures with Sixie. It will be interesting to see where her stories go.
I really hope Lisa Greenwood's health continues to mto a level where she is able to work again. She imbues Flip with such heart and bravery and cheekiness. I only have a couple of her stories but she makes a great companion.
Lovely to see Jacqueline Rayner back as the producer on this range too. Good to see the range in such capable hands.

So, we have the multifarious Doctor (a Doctor of very nearly everything), computer programmer Melanie Bush and marine biologist Hebe Harrison. Even going by skillset alone, that's a pretty interesting combination. Welcome aboard the TARDIS to Ruth Madeley, and I'm delighted there's been a decision to feature more Mel. She hasn't the tendency to get as much press as other companions of the Sixth Doctor (at time of writing, Mind of the Hodiac might change that), but her time with Sixie on audio has felt like a classic era we never got. I've enjoyed those stories a lot. Very eager to see what comes next.

Meant only in jest! I love the audio companions he's got, Evelyn is still a favorite. Was just struck by the fact that he's had so many more audio companions than his counterparts (with the exception of McGann). Alright, this made me go and count! By some measures, the Seventh Doctor has as many companions on audio as Colin (and even the First Doctor's not far behind), but if we're talking about BF original characters, Colin and Paul are definitely ahead of the pack. Criteria: - Travelled with the Doctor in the TARDIS from one story to the next even if one of those stories isn't an audio drama. (ie. Samson's there, but Sheena isn't) - Has appeared in at least one Big Finish story.
1. 10 TV companions + 1 audio (Oliver) 5. 5 TV + 5 audio (Brewster, Hannah, Marc, Erimem & Amy) 6. 2 TV + 10 audio (Frobisher, Evelyn, Brewster, Jason, Crystal, Charley, Older Jamie, Flip, Constance & Hebe) 7. 2 TV + 10 audio (Mags, Benny, Chris, Roz, Raine, Klein, Hex, Sally, Lysandra & Will) 8. 14 audio (Fitz, Izzy, Samson, Gemma, Mary, Charley, C'rizz, Lucie, Tamsin, Molly, Liv, Helen, The Eleven & Bliss)
If characters have to appear in two BF stories to make the list, you can strike Fitz, Izzy, Samson and Gemma from the list and McGann's down to ten - less than the First, Sixth and Seventh Doctors!
If we're just saying "Big Finish original characters", then the Fifth Doctor has 5, the Sixth has 9, the Seventh has 6 and the Eighth has 12 (or 10 if you don't count Samson & Gemma) (Why did I spend time doing this? I don't know!)

I’d have preferred an original companion for another Doctor, but there aren’t that many Sixth Doctor and Mel stories, certainly not recently, so I can live with that. Ruth Madeley is brilliant, though, and I’m glad she’s getting a substantial role. I loved her episode of The Cleaner that was released on iPlayer over the weekend.

This is exciting. I wonder whether Hebe will be a wheelchair user like Ruth Madeley. I’m guessing no, because it seems as though the character came before the actor.
Also, I kinda hope that this is set quite early on in Mel’s travels, like within weeks of her joining as I think that could be an interesting dynamic.
